 Hello everyone! I have a T61 7662-CTO which doesn't play system sounds when you log on and off XP, also, I could not display the volume control panel even after enabling it on the XP Control Panel. The EZ-button would show the green bar when you press it, but it wouldnt adjust the volume either. Everything else seems fine thou, it would play MP3s on Real/Win Media Player no problem, and I can adjust the volume at the control pannel under "Adjust System Volume". Things seemed fine until I made the following upgrades two days ago

    BIOS v. 1.14
    Hotkey driver v. 2.03.0705
    Power Manager v. 1.16

Just a little background info, this system came w/ Vista Basic pre-installed, then I clean-installed with XP Pro SP2, everything worked fine at that time.

    Thanks again for your help!

    1. Try uninstalling and reinstalling your sound card drivers.
    2. Try uninstalling and reinstalling your hotkey drivers.

Thanks dude! I tried them both, but it still doesn't work. Since it can play MP3tracks without any problem, I suspect it is not an issue with the sound card, but some problem with the XP Pro volume control. Any ideas?

Go into the Sounds settings in your Control Panel and see if some of the system sounds were disabled.

go to your sound and audio device properties in CP and try disabling your audio/sound device and then enabling it. that should do the job ;)

Thanks guys! Unfortunately it is still not working after I tried disabling/enabling the sound devices. Could it be a problem between the EZ volume bottom and the XP system? Just curious if this is a common problem w/ people who clean-installed their XP Pro on thinkpads.
    Thanks in advance!

Hope this would help for people who had a similar problem with system sounds. It turns out that uninstalling Xvid codec might accidentally remove the following registry "wavemapper REG_SZ msacm32.drv" under "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32" and this was causing the problem the whole time.
This can be easily fixed by getting something called K-lite Codec Pack (just google it) and just do
start- K-Lite Codec Pack - Configuration -Codec Tweak Tool
From there click the button for: Fix non-working system sound
So now I have my system sound back and the EZ bottons are working too! :)

Strange thing happened to me. I just got a T61 and love it. Tech Support atrocious as we all know. Comp works great one small problem, though.

The sound buttons on my keyboard (directly next to the blue thinkvantage button) stopped working. The mute button works. But the increase and decrease volumes dont. I'm running vista.

Can anyone help? I tried the sugestions in this thread with to no avail. Thanks!
