Is there an industry wide specification for the surface roughness of touchpads? From an ergonomic perspective I find the sensitivity and accuracy of the T61 ThinkPad touchpad outstanding.

Using the automatic parts detection tool on the Lenovo web site I obtained the following information for the touchpad on my T61:

39T7209 0000000 TOUCHPAD PLATE :pADS NO

However, this information does not mean much to me. Does this information detail anything about the surface roughness of the touchpad?

I'm curious because this is the best touchpad I have used on a laptop computer. I find the sensitivity and accuracy of this touchpad outstanding.

    Thanks.

I'm sorry I don't have the answer to this, but I must also agree that the touchpad is amazing. Not sure about the new ones though.. but the t6x/r5x/t4x touchpads are so good that I enjoy and do well playing FPS' with the touchpad.

Coming from a T42 to a T400, I think the touchpad is even better on the newer generation. I am sure most of it is due to the increase in horizontal space, but it feels very good!

In my sig you can see I have both a Lenovo and a Compaq. Although the Lenovo touchpad is good, the super smooth (but not too smooth) surface on my Compaq is even better.(to my taste)

No, that information is merely the part number of the touchpad. The T400/500's touchpads are identical to the T60 and T61's touchpads, except that they are extended horizontally, and have scrolling region arrows painted in dark grey on them. The new dimensions are 70 x 34mm
