I ordered the T61 on Sunday and just called to find out if Vista was the 32 bit or 64 bit version b/c there was no option on the site. The woman on the phone said it was 100% 64 bit version. Is this okay and will it be compatible with all my programs? If not would I be better switching to Vista Business 32 bit? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, my ship date says 5/31 but how accurate is this date? I have seen many people complaining about the T60 and it taking over a month to ship so I'm a little concerned. Anyone know if I'm going to be waiting for a loooooong time or should I trust the ship date they have provided? Thanks.

I would think it is 32 bit, but don't know for sure. Since the T61 is new longer shipping times are not unheard of though they tend to be conservative.

I thought it would be 32 bit as well but when I called I was told otherwise. I asked the woman if she was sure it is 64 bit and she said that she was looking at it in her computer right now and that she was "100% sure." I was very surprised.

Goes to show you how stupid their sales staff is. The 64bit version is more expensive and it would state this on the OS options, so NO, it's NOT 64 bit version of Windows Ultimate.

I'm betting it is the 64-bit. I ordered a T61 last week with Vista Home Basic. This is the part no: 42V9597 SBB MSWIN VHB 32 US ENGLISH

I changed my mind on the configuration and just ordered a new T61 and decided to go with Vista Home Premium. Part no: 42V9565 SBB MSWIN VHP 64 US ENGLISH

I bolded the important parts. I would guess this indicates VHP is 64 bit, and I would imagine Ultimate would also be 64 bit.

I just looked at my order and it says two different things:
42X1587 SBB MSWIN VISTA ULTIMATE 32
42V9469 SBB MSWIN VULT64 US ENGLISH

Does this mean they are shipping both 32 bit AND 64 bit? I'm a little confused.

You souldn't have any problems with your applications on 64bit Windows. It will run both 32bit and 64bit applications without any problems. Infact, 64bit is better because it has a new kernel which is more secure than the 32bit kernel.

As far as the prices go, both 32bit and 64bit Windows are the same price...when you buy retail Ultimate, you get 2 DVDs - 32bit & 64bit.

Maybe they are shipping the system with both 32 bit adn 64 bit then. That would explain why it lists both on the order status page.

    FYI:

BEWARE if you think you're getting Vista 64bit installed on your T61!

Last week I ordered a T61, full gambit of options, (T7700, Windows Vista Ultimate, WWAN, etc.) $3000+

After ordering I reviewed the email confirmation and saw Vista 32bit being installed on the T7700 64bit processor. After talking with the salesrep I was told Lenovo only installs 32bit Vista as this is the licensing agreement with Microsoft and the DVD's will not be shipped with the system since one can create refresh disks from the hard-drive (not for 64bit since 32bit is installed).

I have no use for another 32bit OS especially on a 64bit processor! After confirming this with another salesrep I immediately cancelled my order. I waited 9 months for the T61 to come out and all the reviews state Vista 64bit is on the T61 but not according to the salesreps and my own order confirmation - SO BEWARE if you are expecting the 64bit Vista version is being installed on your T61!!

The kernel isn't any different than Vista 32-bit, except that Vista 64-bit doesn't allow the installation of signed drivers and the 64-bit is, obviously, designed for 64-bit computing.

Um... You do know that you can upgrade to 64bit for free... Use the same cd key and it activates...
