    Hi all,

I received a new T61 last week. I have been following the Vista optimization guide on this forum. I followed the step where disabling windows indexing helps make vista faster. I disabled indexing in the HDD properties. After the message of "include all folders and subfolders", I got a message saying "Boot(something).exe error" (I do not remember exactly what file it was saying). Initially I did a "Ignore all". And now both IE and Firefox do not work.
Basically its not able to do anything now. And system restore does not work either. Does anyone here have any idea why this might be happening?
    Thank you

I did the same thing, got the same message (a file that cannot be modified except on safeboot), but it had absolutely no effect on my computer, or on IE. I am thinking that you had some other problem. The standard answer for system restore not working is to call Lenovo tech support and request restore CDs. They will usually send them quickly...

Can you do a safe boot? Boot and hit f8. Do a safe boot and go through the sequence you attempted.

    Thanks bsodder and Renee...
I will look into your suggestions and try the safe boot method. If not, I guess its best to call Lenovo.
So I guess this is a Vista problem rather than a hardware problem right?

You haven't had any BSOD's. right? So it is probably a Vista/software problem...

I am having the exact same problem, so I left the indexing box checked this time. Previously, I unchecked it, ignored all the error messages, and IE didn't work. I had to do a factory restore. This is on my brand new x61s.

Any luck with figuring out why the error messages pop up and IE won't work?

I found out that following the Vista Tweaks recommendations, disabling the Workstation service caused the same IE disabling condition I experienced before, similar to what you're describing after disabling the indexing service.

I could not connect nor could I close IE after disabling Workstation.
