Good Day,
I'm a prospective T61 buyer. Never used IBM/Lenovo b4. I heard it's very durable but I'm concerned with the display brightness as some reviews have commented that it lacks brightness.
The model I'm looking at has Intel T8300 CPU, ATI Quadro NVS 140m GPU and a WXGA+ 1400x900 display. I hail from Singapore and over here Thinkpads are very expensive. This model costs about USD1650. I've looked at T400 but it's even more expensive (>USD1980).
So I don't mind spending that amount for the T61 if the screen brightness is at least about 250nit. I had a Fujitsu before and I really liked the screen quality and brightness which went up to 300nit.
I know that there have been threads on this topic b4 but was wondering if some could give fresh insight especially since by now some people have used it for a year.

I have no complaints about screen brightness or whatsoever. Unless you plan on using it outdoors, you shouldn't have any problems at all. I sometimes wipe off the dust with my fingers hehe.
However, the crack sounds on the palmrests when under some pressure really annoy me sometimes which is what I don't like about my T61. Hopefully, tightening the screws on the back might help a bit. -

The max you can get in a T61 is 220nit and thats made by LG. To get one is just the luck of the draw. The screens are fine but there not going to glow like the sun.

sorry I have no idea about it other than the fact that it's a decent matte screen.
Depending on the specs, it should be under 1k for sure in the US. You are welcome to check out the outlet or other sources because t61 is discontinued now. I don't know anything about the pricing in other countries like Japan though. -
On another note, would a T61P with a 15.4" WUXGA 1920x1200 have a better screen brightness/contrast? -
T61 thinkpads do not have spectacularly bright screens.
If you view it on its own, it's not really too bad. Definitely usable and I don't really come close to having it on full brightness using it at home.
However, if you put it side by side with say a desktop display, the difference is very apparent. Then again, desktop displays are usually much brighter. -
I don't have WXGA+ but WXGA and the brightness is the dimness. I can't use it outdoor. For real.

I have a 14.1in 1400x1050 Standard (not wide) T61P. The screen is ok indoors, but definitely superweak for outdoors. The viewing angles aren't very good either - esp for graphic work. I think my screen is 200 nit if I'm not mistaken. I know for sure its not above 250. i think screen quality is probably the one weakness of thinkpads.
T61 WXGA+ display brightness?
