    Hi,
I have a T61 with WinXP installed. I replaced the drive with a SSD and updated to Win7, no problems. I also upgraded vmware workstation to version 8 so I can run Win98 as I had been in WinXP. Unfortunately the performance is horrible. I've spend a couple of weeks trying different things and had vmware tech support connect to the machine, they can't find a problem. I even tried a clean install.

So, I'm thinking the next best solution would be to install Win98 on my T61 as a dual boot OS. I checked the Lenovo site and they don't have any drivers as I expected but I was hoping someone here can let me benefit from their experience. All suggestions are appreciated, a link or just a point in the right direction. Thanks.

I haven't had trouble with Windows 98 in VMWare. VirtualBox seems to work better though.

Don't think you'll get Windows 98 to run on this modern a piece of hardware.

I have Windows 98 running in Workstation and Virtualbox no problem. Be sure to only give it 1 CPU and 1 Core and less than a GB of ram. The Windows 98 desktop lags horribly when using more than 1CPU/1Core. All the drivers work as well when you install the Tools that comes with either Virtual Box or VMWare fushion/workstation. Sound, GPU, Mouse, Ethernet.

Windows 98 is not SMP capable, so it can only use up to one core, and has no idea what to do with additional cores. It will not use more than a gig of RAM without crashing, but there is a patch that allows up to 4GB of RAM.

You might gain some insight from the 9x subforum on MSFN, though.
