it's a kind of unsupported driver "Tpxxx" then A> shown. I recon that someone posted in previous page.

I try to use usb stick, still not working with C> displayed. then I format win7 and install winXP and it's working perfect. now I can get around 250MB/s :)

I count that my X61 needs around 37 sec to completely boot up from the moment I press power button. I'm just wondering for anyone who can get 15 sec to boot up. is there any additional tweak?

overall I'm really satisfied with the performance, have not found any major issue yet

Hi guys. I haven't found any information about whether there is a modded bios (it's SATA-II what I need) for my 15' sized T61p (T9300, wide). I can see that it exists for 14' sized T61p's only - do I miss anything here? Thanks...

And I just noticed that version 2.30 for the T61/p BIOS was released on my birthday :)

Middleton, any chance of updating you BIOS to the 2.30 version located here? Pretty please? :)

Honestly, I was amazed that it was even updated! I wonder if this is something related to possible DPC latency issues after all these years. It would be great to send this machine off into the sunset with this one last update.

Thanks again Middleton. You're a prince amongst modders :)

Middleton once said on this thread that the BIOS was designed for all types of T61 (p or on p, ws or not) machines, so yes you should be fine. :)

you need to download the cd iso. Then use a free program like imgburn and burn the iso file. Do not update the bios via windows it will sometimes crash

It looks like with BIOS 2.30, you also need to update your sound card drivers as it adds the following:

•[Important] Supported both for Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Windows Vista.
•(New) Added the support for AD1984A of audio CODEC. The supported BIOS is needed.
Supported model: ThinkPad T61 (attached AD1984A audio CODEC)
Supported BIOS : 2.30(7LETD0WW) or later

Middleton, any way we can persuade you to update the BIOS to 2.30 as stated in my previous post?

    Thank you very VERY much.

My English is not good, so I prefer to ask also.

If I install the modified BIOS that I can put to my X300 everyone WWAN (HSDPA modem) ? So example: Gobi 2000, Dell 5540 etc?

    Hi,

I have a question about the BIOS for X61T.

In the table that lists all BIOSes, X61 BIOS has two versions: one for the XGA screen and one for the SXGA+ screen. Is the same true for X61T? (if yes, is the X61T BIOS version for XGA screen or for SXGA+ screen). I happen to have the SXGA+ and I'm not sure, if everything will work correctly if I flash middleton's BIOS into the laptop.

    Hej,

    I have a X61 Tablet with a SXGA+ screen and Windows 7 64-bit version.

    On page 42 middelton said:

Now I am confused which version I sould use ... Perhaps somebody can clarify it!

Another question regards the way of updating the bios. I do not have a docking-station for my X61t, though I do not have a CD slot.
What is the simples method to update the bios anyway? Is there a possibility to create a bootable USB Stick to flash the BIOS?
Another method which comes to my mind would be to create a new partition on the harddrive and install a windows 32-bit version on that from which I could start the winuptp.exe. Would that be possible too?

    Thanks for your answers!

My apologies, I stand corrected. Please use the X61 Tablet specified version. It would appear that Lenovo had packaged the X61 Tablet BIOS in one package, even though there were 3 different screen variants - one of them being an SXGA+.

Hello! I have a strange situation with BIOS update. Process update successful, but nothing changed.
I used BIOS for t61, update with CD, version CNTRL-FN #2
Process startted with: "Updated embedded controller", takes approx. 2 minutes, then long "beep", and appeared "EC flash completed. Rebut your machine now"
Unfortunately nothing changes and I see Error 1802-unauthorized network card
In th BIOS I see the version 2.27 - 1.08
    Laptop 14,1 wide, T61 part.num 7661-CTO
Does anybody had the same issue? How it could be that BIOS updated but white list does not disabled?
P.S. other versions of modified bios T61 does not accepted. Only #2 flashed well.

Try removing your wireless network card and flash it without it, then put it back in. Make sure you are using 2.29 since that is middleton's most recent BIOS and not 2.30 from Lenovo.

    Hey everyone !

I have successfully updated bios for my thinkpad x61 ( thank you middleton ! ), everything works great but I can't see any changes for dual-IDA
    ( 2.20 GHz to 2.40 GHz ) . In Bios it's still 2.20 GHz , in cat /proc/cpuinfo also 2.20 GHz.

What should I do ? Any help will be appreciated !

    thanks

    Hej,

can nobody help me with my question about how to flash the bios with a 64-bit system but without CD?

Until now I made a bootable USB Stick and copied afterwards all files of the ISO-file (loaded by virtual clone drive) to the stick.
Then I booted from USB and came to comand-line " C:/".

Now: What command do I have to enter to update the bios? Do I have to enter special properties?

    Thanks for your answers!

I tried to update bios without network card.
I have an idea. Only Embedded Controller was flashed, but BIOS stay the same (ver 2.27 from Lenovo). Probably the root cause is dead battery. Flash utility checks battery, (it is dead) and aborts flashing process. Unfortunately without any message that BIOS was not flashed. What you think, could it be? I use Middleton's ISO CD for boot and flash.

I am not happy to bay new battery just to check this idea :) Laptop was specially bought with dead battery to prevent it usage by child out of flat :)

    Hello Out there.

I have my 2nd Thinkpad, this one is a Lenovo, not more IBM..

Now I saw the whole discuss about SATA 2 3Gb/s.

    I Have a X61s 7666-CTO-W53 Model - With "Fn-Crtl".

Can anybody confirm that the biosflash will work for this machine?

Would it be possible to flash back to the regulary BIOS from LENOVO if there are some other HW-Issues!?

    Thank you for your replys!!

    Greetings,

Hello I have a Lenovo Thinkpad x61T (tablet version, 1400x1050/SXGA+)

I tried to flash the tablet version bios from usb (I have windows 7 64bit installed) using freedos, seemed to go fine but when I looked back a while later the screen was rapidly filled with "unknown opcode something" and flashing like crazy, it really scared me but after reboot it was fine, I guess it didn't flash? is there any way to check?

    Hi,

I recently upgraded my T61 CPU, going from a Merom 1,8 to a Penryn T9300 and get the "thermal sensor error" message. I saw that Middleton had made a patch for this error (thank you :)) and decided to download and burn the iso to flash my netbook.

When booting up (pressing escape when the "thermal....." stuff show on screen), it starts to load the dvdram driver and writes out the "Checking for files and environment ... Done" followed by a "Start flashing ...".

After this, nothing more happends. It just idles right there.

I have tried the normal "bios update" iso as well as the ctrl-fn ones (#1 and #2) and they all just hang there. Am i missing something??

    regards

    Daniel

I downgraded to the official Thinkpad 2.27 bios (reading about this on this forum) to be able to upgrade to a later version 2.29 of the Middleton bios.

It just hangs there. I did manage to get to the prompt after booting and tried the phlash16 example (found here also) to make a dos flash, but with the same results. Even tried an external usb cd-reader (then the bat-file references c:\ which is the internal dvd and not the external.....).

    help (???) :)

Any one know how to pay for the BIOS? I have installed it on an x61t with an OCZ agility SATA III SSD, it does everything it advertises and I want to pay for it. The performance increase will keep my my Lappy going for another few years at least (provided the hardware doesn't fail). 20$ is a bargain for something like that.

Has anyone tried this bios on a FRU 41W1489, because my hdd is still capped at 1.5, also I wish to know if a Penryn will still work. My first motherboard got fried and erroneously I bought the 41W1489, and I see the difference. My old board was a 44C3933, and the capped was lifted with this bios mod. So has anyone experienced this also?

On my X61s (XGA) I have successfully flashed Middelton's BIOS v.2.22 which removed whitelist and enabled SATA II. Everything works perfect since almost one year. Great work Middelton btw! Now I would like to do SXGA+ mod (I have already SXGA+ LCD from X60t as well as special cable). Concernig this I have two questions:

    1. Since I am a linux user I don't really need the bios patched for SXGA+ (I already checked it) but I would like to have clear view during boot stage and at bios setup. Is it possible to flash SXGA+ BIOS over XGA BIOS but both at the same version? Both for x61s and v.2.22. Or do I need to perform downgrade first? If downgrade is needed how should I proceed?
    2. After flashing SXGA+ BIOS would it be possible to use XGA LCD without problems during boot stage and at bios setup? Or the situation would be the same as for XGA BIOS and SXGA+ LCD?

I would be grateful for information based on your experience.

I really hope there's people that still read new posts in this thread. I recently obtained a 14.1" widescreen T61 with BIOS 2.29 but ECP 1.06. I was able to install Middleton's BIOS by rolling back to 2.27 first, but I didn't get SLIC or SATA-II support. I assume the problem is the old ECP, but I can't seem to get it to update. Everything seems to work without errors until I check the ECP version and see that it still hasn't changed. I've tried all of the options that allow me to flash it without a battery.

It should be possible using the Bootable CD method, I've done it before when I deliberately updated the BIOS to test whether it was possible to downgrade and sure enough it worked fine on my T61.

    Hi,

    I have a T61 (7659) with a T7300 cpu and m/b no. 41W1487. I applied the middleton BIOS to allow the T9300 cpu.

Since Win 7 x64 boots fine, I noticed a hiss sound coming from the cpu area when the machine is on battery. The sound goes away when I plug it in the power cord.

Is this normal? Do I have to install different Windows drivers for the new cpu?
I also noticed that Lenovo's system update application now freezes at startup. The problem is resolved when I put back the original T7300 cpu.

Can I fix this behaviour? Or even with the patched bios the cpu upgrade is not possible?

    Thanks a lot.

Is it like a high frequency whine/squeal while in battery mode? If so then it is normal behaviour for the Core 2 Duo as it has been well reported that it make noises when it goes to low power saving mode (C4 State), this affects all makes and not just Lenovo. Disabling the Intel Speedstep feature in BIOS can cure the noise problem or by using an application called RMClock and disabling the C4 State permanently.

Applied the non "CTRL-FN swap" successfully to an R61 7733-AQ9 via ISO written to a CDRW. Had to enable BIOS update via LAN in the BIOS (the update process itself complained specifically about this). I don't remember if the normal update is like this (I believe so), but there's not much action, it just does the job and beeps, no progress bar or anything else beyond something like "updating..." and after a few minutes "done", without any interaction.

    Thanks Middleton.

    Hello,

First of All I applied the the newest bios succesfully (2.22) and Sata-II is working on my X61 with Samsung 830 SSD!!!

I did the flash without CD Drive: The Trick was to put the bios flash files (inside 7nuj22uc.iso) to the BOOT/Bootable_1.44M.img - after that i was able to flash the bios via usb stick.

Up to now everything seems fine, except:

    - My HD LED is always on

I have read in other forums that this could be a Problem with incorrect AHCI Mode in The Operating System, but i suspect that this is not the case for me because the LED is always on even before Operating System Startup.

Does anybody had the same Problem? Or know a Solution.

    regards
    Gerd
