Hi All,
I've been trying to get a clean version of XP on my new T61 and I am running into a problem on shutdown/restart. Whenever I shutdown/restart the computer it shows the "Windows shutting down screen" then just locks up and I have to hard power the machine off. At first it seemed to start when I installed the Amtel TPM drivers. Once I installed it it seemed to be the culprit. I disabled the Amtel TPM in the device manager and everything seemed to be working. Then I set the computer to download a bunch of windows updates and went to bed. When I woke up in the morning the problem had returned. Anyone run into this?
Thanks in advance, Mark

Yeap, its the Intel AMT drivers all rite, mine was like that too. I had to reboot the machine, and with a fresh install I purposely didn't install the drivers for the AMT, and disabled it. Now its working fine.
What you might want to do is to look at your Device Manager and check if the AMT has been enabled automatically again. If it does, I suggest you reload XP again.
Cheers,

I found that the integrated camera drivers did the same thing as the AMT drivers. I did a restore point to a point where I didn't have the AMT drivers installed, but when I installed the camera drivers the problem cropped up. Could be that there are several drivers that cause this problem.

That is interesting... Seems like only my AMT drivers were the cause of my troubles... My camera driver doesn't seem to bother me at all... hmmm....

IHMO, the best way to avoid any problem is not re-install everything. You simply remove things you dont want.
Why so many people re-install their systems like pros??? -
because it's the only sure fire way to get everything off your system.

For that "everything", worth the time and headaces? What else can you achieve for this except "purity" feel? IMHO, most often the effort is well over buying a new laptop.

As far as people re-doing their laptops... most enthusiasts wipe any mainstream system. I, for one, ordered my laptop with the Turbo Memory option, which disables the choice for XP. I have no desire to run Vista at this point, but would like the option to use it once the "bugs" are worked out
btw, I ran into the restart/shutdown issues on two seperate installs, neither of which used AMT.
