    Hi,

I was going to get a Dell 1330 but since that seems to be taking ages I have started looking around and the T61p looks like a fine machine! :)

Looking at the 7500 2.2GHz, 100G, 2GB, version NH36XUK. Want to be sure it comes with a 7200rpm drive though can anybody confirm this?

All what do people think of this machine against the Dell 1330?

    Cheers,

    P

I can give you one huge reason (at least it was for me...)

I am a full time student but do consulting part time and am expected to use my own workstation for business. Currently, the office I am working with hired me to setup a PKI so that all users can be on a smartcard setup. Aside from this, all workstations are needing to be encrypted at the filesystem level. They had a laptop stolen a month or so back which triggered this entire need.

The T61/T61p has a TPM module built in. The 1330 - not. To make it short, the Lenovo is a secure solution. If you want a TPM on a dell, you usually have to look at the latitudes. Comparing the 1330 to a thinkpad though is not quite fair. You should check out the Lenovo 3000N or 3000N series for a slightly more apples to apples comparison.

You will find that the overall quality of laptop is higher with the thinkpads. While most people consider the dell cute/sexy as hell - it is not ready for business use. The thinkpad is the german car of notebooks.

I like the XPS M1330, it's a well built sturdy notebook with magnesium alloy housing, nice design, really thin & light and has extras like LED screen. I think it's great for protability purposes.

Also, the T61p (NH36XUK) is 15.4", so it isn't exactly a fair comparison, and yes it has some security features but not everyone uses them... (for example: TMP is the first thing that I disable on any notebook that I use since I find it annoying and I don't really need it... etc.

All in all, both are great quality, so it comes down to a personal preference and needs...mainly about the size/portability... and the GPU power that you need.
