My T40 next to the X61s. The T61 is slighter wider and shorter than the T40.

Many thanks. May be I should think about X61s or X61 Tablet. Are they much difference ? Is there any good deal right now that I could apply ?

The X61T is basically the tablet form of the X61s. They both have the low-voltage Core 2 Duo CPU.

Be aware of the X61's shortcomings.
The notoriously hot right palmrest is one of them.

I have the Intel a/g/n card in mine. It's warm but I wouldn't consider it scalding hot.

That's the card to get in the X61. It runs the coolest.
But I still woudn't get one since I have very little tolerance to elevated temps on the palm rests.

According to this tests, this is how the wireless cards stack up thermally (the source of palmrest heat).
The card sits right under the right palm rest, without much room to spare.

    Intel 4965 agn :--------------- 53 degrees (Max)
TP Atheros abg:--------------- 58.5 degrees (Max)
    Intel 3945 abg :--------------- 60 degrees (Max)
TP Atheros abgn :------------- 63.4 degrees (Max)

I hear the ThinkPad/Atheros brand card has way better reception.

I have an X61t and the palm rest is not more than lukewarm at any given time.
    Proof?

Compared to the Intel 3945 a/b/g, the Atheros card got better reception, but it also ran hotter. The new Intel 4965 a/g/n seems to be an improvement over its predecessor in terms of heat and reception.

I'd also like to see proof since its a different card.

So far mine works fine but I really don't have much to compare it to.

Any comments on the screen brightness/quality in the X61s?

The UltraLight screen is very bright. I have mine set to 10/15 notches. The viewing angles aren't that great as expected. It has a blueish tint, but that can be fixed by calibrating the screen. I really need to buy one of those Spyder Screen Calibrators.

I was set on buying a X61 until i realized how inconvenient it is to not have a optical at all times for me. That and once i picked up the 14.1" T61, it was perfect. Not heavy at all and very portable. I will still be getting an X Series in the future. But right now I need an all-in-one computer, and the T was perfect.
