This could be my last post before I take the plung in
mere minutes and my last decision is on warranty.
I had just a couple responses on whether or not to
purchase the extended warranty.
Given the quality of the T61 should I buy an extended
warranty? If so should I add one additional year for $69
(2 yrs total) or two for $119 (3 yrs total).
I plan on using this notebook mainly as a desktop
replacement. I probably won't use the battery very much,
is it worth buy the 9 cell for $30 for the rare
occasions I may need it at an airport or trade show?
I also keep reading abouta 7 cell but don't see it
listed anywhere.
Thanks for all the advice. I want to order this tonight
as I believe all the specials end June 30 and I want to
make sure I get the specials.

Warranty decision right now is not critical. If you're undecided at this point, just get the basic, you can upgrade any time w/in the first year.

9 cell is max for 15" and 7 cell is max for 14". I didn't get any warranty outside of the one they just give as basic warranty. I have never bought any extended warranties and I've never had the need for one. everyone is different though, so judge your risk aversity and lifestyle.

for a notebook it might be a good idea to get an extended warranty in my opinion. my sony laptop had its share of problems after about 8 months of ownership...battery not holding a charge, charger with no power, dead pixels, keyboard space bar not working......etc
Sony fixxed all of the problems in a timely manner, but a few weeks after my warranty ran dry my battery wouldnt take a charge at all anymore. Naturally I didnt take the extended warranty and repairing this laptop will cost atleast 200 bucks.
Bottom line, if you actually use your laptop as a laptop, something is bound to happen to it, but then again, I dont know about thinkpads, they seem pretty robust. -
Some credit cards like American Express extend the warranty an additional year. Perhaps you should look at the warranty guide.

Thanks.
I read that and checked with my credit card company.
My Master Card adds 1 year to my existing warranty. I bought the year 2 for $58 anyway so I have 3 years coverage for $58.
Better safe than sorry.
My computer is supposed to be shipped 7/14/07 -
