Hi I've had a t61p that I adore. Mostly because it's 1920 x 1200 with the most beautiful screen I've used on a laptop. It's been very good. Runs 4 virtual machines with 8gb of ram. And over the past 2 years with windows 7 it hasn't crashed on me. I run it at 2.2ghz at .95v which is a huge undervolt and keeps my heatsink cool (which shares the heatsink with the dreaded gpu). I never play games so it run around 43* Celcius and up to 54* watching some HD youtube videos. Run dual IDA using throttlestop to 2.7 ghz at 1.08v which is also very good.
I'm know the t9600 is 1066 fsb vs the 800 of the t9300. Has anyone run the t9600 at near full speed on the t61? Has softfsb ever worked on the t61? thx

You need a pinmod for T9600 to run in a T61p as far as I know.
If you need more "oomph"...I'd go with X9000.
Personally, I have a T9500 in my T61-based FrankenPad and am very happy with it...but that would not be a noticeable difference from your current CPU. -
if you have T9300 right now then you dont need an upgrade, unless you really really need more CPU speed, in which case you can go with x9000 easily to about 3.2GHz. But then your GPU side will get too hot so I wouldn't go that route - stick with dual IDA on the T9300 and call it a day
the T9600 can work with socket mod back to 200MHz bus, but then it has 10.5 multiplier so you'll end up at 2.1 GHz ... so it's a downgrade from the T9300. -
ok thanks. I have another i5 laptop but I'm a t61 lover.
T61 any advantage of putting a t9600 in my t61 w t9300
