I am wondering how many cells you can fit in a 14.1" T61 without having any of them stick out the back.
As I understand it if you get a 4 cell in the back, it won't stick out, is that right?
4 isn't much, but if you combine it with a battery in the media bay, how many total cells can you get and what kind of usage time could you get with a setup like that?
thanks for any help with this.

You're right, only 4-cell doesn't stick out (at least for the widescreen... I'm not 100% sure for 4:3 14" T61 but I think 6-cell doesn't stick out, anybody can confirm?)
The Ultrabay is a 3-cell battery -
Curious, why all the trouble to avoid a battery sticking out the back? 4, 6, and 7 cells are the options, the 4 is the only one that does not stick out (pretty sure). I have 9 cells on both of my T machines, and they still fit fine in my bags, etc. If you're looking to reduce weight, you'll probably be almost as heavy once you add the ultrabay battery.

Speaking of ultrabay batteries, I was going to get one until I read about the usageage alorithms. As set up, the system will draw all of its power from the ultrabay battery in a way that is VERY bad for the battery. You can reverse the order but then it will do the same thing to the man battery. They don't use them in parallel - they are used serially.

thanks for the info.
Guru, the reason I am concerned is because I saw some posts with people complaining about that aspect of the T61. Part of the reason was putting it in bags, etc... some of it may have just been asthetic reasons, but I know it bothered some people. I'm thinking of getting a T61 and some comparable laptops seem to have better battery configurations and longer battery life, like the dell d630. Although the dell may not be as sturdy and I know it lacks some things the T61 has (webcam, mic..). -
i have the following 6-cell, it does NOT stick out

Do you have pictures??? -
He probably has a 4:3 version (in which the 6cell does not stick out), not the widescreen.

I have an ultra bay battery...... it's really not that bad. Yes, it drains the ultra bay battery before switching over but does it really matter? If you are a mobile user the extra 1.5-2 hours is great. And so far the ultra bay battery hasn't lost any capacity from being discharged down to 0 percent. -

I have a T61 14 inch screen and the 6 cell. It sticks out about an inch from the back and 7-8 inches long.
