On my T61, the little piece of plastic that extends inside the body of the palm rest to hold the mouse buttons in place recently snapped on the left button. I was soldiering on just making sure the button (and membrane underneath) stayed in place, but it's basically completely stopped working now.

I have the basic 3 year warranty in Canada, which expires in November. Are they going to expect me to send in the laptop, or will they mail out a new palm rest? Or will they even replace it at all?

If it's the palm rest that's broken, I believe they would mail you a new one.

yeah i think for lenovo laptops the palmrest is a CRU (customer replaceable unit) rather then a FRU (field replaceable unit)

Thanks, that's what I was hoping. It is definitely an easily replaceable part. I'll call tomorrow and report back.

The memory sits under the palm rest and is considered a user replaceable part. In order to replace it you have to take off the palm rest.

I finally got around to calling today. They're sending out a new front bezel and keyboard (also in bad shape), no problem. Glad I got that extended warranty.
