I can't comment on game compatibility (cause I don't play them on my laptop), but I have not come across any applications that don't work with Vista. Some applications temporarily change the theme from glass to 'aero' while the application is running, but when you close that app, it'll revery back to glass. I've had Vista on mine for over a week and despite pushing the laptop hard, I've yet to see any Vista issues.

I am running Windows classic theme on Vista. I can care less about the pretty interface.

Some of the my old games couldn't install under Vista. No biggie, I should have stopped playing them years ago.

Will go with Vista someday in the future. Microsoft is supporting XP until 2015. Looking back I didn't ever jump into any of the OS's when they first came out. I certainly don't regret waiting on the sidelines for awhile. I believe Vista has a ways to go to become my first choice in business and at home.

I got XP. I'll enjoy it fine when my T61 gets back from the repair shop.

I got it with vista because I didn't have a choice of XP at the time, but I'm gonna install it when I get the computer.

When I get my T61 I'm just gonna go ahead and use Vista, since they say Vista scales dpi better then xp and I'm gonna need it with my WSXGA+ screen.

If I start having problems, I'm just going to use Ubuntu and VM xp or something.

I also think its kinda funny to have Vista gaming complaints on the Lenovo forums ;)

Why no choice? Bought preconfigured from reseller?

I've noticed that all of them at costcentral, pcconnection, euclid etc have vista. Kind of surprised me that retailers weren't carrying an xp option, and I started thinking I'd be in the severe minority in having ordered xp.

About half and half here so far.

I don't know when they'll drop support but Windows 98 was just recently dropped, so thats 9 years ago.

They are gonna stop selling them in retail channels in 08 I think.

MS will drop extended support (includes security updates but no warranty claims, non-security hot-fixes or design changes) in 2014.

You are going to have to move to Vista sooner or later. Might as well do it now with your new laptop, so you wont have to pay for an upgrade later on down the road.

For me, Visual Studios 2005, Matlab, Autocad, Quartus and Labview all have minor quirks that are annoying every now and then

Well, I have T60. I ordered my laptop with Vista, and then installed my old copy of XP on it. Sooner or later, we have to accept Vista. So I want a copy of Vista for the future.
