Hello All,
This is my first post here at Notebook Review and I have already tried searching for a similar topic on T61 notebooks and couldn't find any as most of them talks about a clicking sound, which IMO is something entirely different. In my case it is a constant whoooshing sound of varying degrees.
I purchased my T61 Wide Screen 15.4", Core2Duo [email protected], 100 GB 7200rpm HDD, 2GB RAM + 1GB Turbo Memory, back in October 2007. I am using Vista Ultimate 32 bit edition.
Recently, it has started constant hard drive sound, which keeps on changing its intensity (low to high) but remains constant even if the disk usage is 0% in performance monitor.
Looking at a particular thread, I guess it was for Dell laptops, I installed a NHC software and set my HDD to max performance mode but it didn't help either.
Especially if you're sitting in a library or in a classroom, it's very irritating.![]()
Overall I am pretty much happy with my T61, and I would really appreciate if someone knows of a fix for this problem.

bumping the thread. please help.

If your HDD starts making unusual noises, back up your data now.
-
I have checked with NHC, my HDD is doing all good.. it's just the sound I am annoyed with.

Have you disabled such things as Superfetch, Windows Search, Indexing etc ? Those are the things which will generate HDD activity although your notebook is idle.
Are the noises clicking noises ? -
Nopes, those voices aren't clicking noise.. it's just some mild to annoying intensity constant whoooshing sound, the one you would expect to hear from a small electric motor.
Do you mean these superfetch, windows search etc disk utilization will not be showed by Disk activity LED or even the Disk Utilization also?
T61 constant, irritating hard drive sound
