Recently I have been experiencing crashes on my T61 in which all apps open will stop responding, the screen eventually goes black with a cursor if I try to kill enough processes. And all I can do is restart the system to get back. But i have been doing some experiments and I have come to the conclusion that this happens only when uTorrent is open. I believe uTorrent is making my system crash somehow. Is anyone else experiencing crashes when uTorrent is open. and this only started happening after the very latest uTorrent update.

I would check your laptop for viruses and spyware.

What tools do you recommend I do this with. I have scanned with adaware, spybot and nod32. None of them have found a serious threat. I honestly don't thinks its spyware or a virus as I maintain my system very carefully.

Try either reinstalling it or use different torrent software like Azureus if you think its the torrent software.

I'm running uTorrent with no problems. However, did you manually turn off the firewall in order to try to attain higher speeds? If so, this, combined with whatever virus/malware you may have picked up, could be the culprit.

you have a a torrent program installed.... that alone disqualifies you from "maintaining your system very carefully"....

True. But I am still very careful i scan every torrent I download with nod32. Not to mention nod32 constantly monitors ALL internet traffic for viruses. But as for spyware I am starting to think I may have some spyware hidden but Im not finding anything. I will reinstall utorrent and see what happens.

I found torrenting to be pretty safe. I've downloaded tons of stuff from respectable torrent hosting sites and never got a virus. Just have to watch and see if people seed the torrent to each other. They tend not to seed if theres a virus on it.

I found the best method would be to look at the comments associated with the torrents; people post if it is fake or it has flagged their antivirus
