The T400 is the ThinkPad which will replace the T61. But it's still possible to get a T61. I just bought a T61 because I wanted a ThinkPad with a 4:3 ratio screen and SXGA+ (1400 x 1050) resolution. and although it's a T61 it still packs a Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 Penryn processor...

The T400 is only widescreen and I don't like that...

Yep, I based my decision to accelerate buying a new Thinkpad because later T61 4:3 will be near to impossible to find them new. I also got a SXGA+ model but I find the screen to have washed out colors, backlight bleeding at the bottom of the panel.
Although quite happy with it, also got a Penryn processor, which undervolted rarely it stays below the 60C mark.
I wonder if later if I decide to upgrade to a Montevina processor on my T61 if it will be possible?

I got a T60 and a T61 both with a 4:3 ratio SXGA+ screen. I have no problems regarding washed out colors and backlight bleeding on any of them... I've also undervolted my T61 with a T9300 Penryn and managed to lower my voltage from 1.1375v to 1.0000v... My processor idles at 35 degrees celcius and peaks at full load around 50 degrees celcius...
