Heh.....S-video isn't exactly high quality anymore. Maybe back in the 90's.

I think if you want S-video, you'll need to find an adapter than can change a VGA signal into the S-video one.

s-video is not longer considered high quality and more and more tv's are getting vga, dvi, and hdmi connections while less are getting co-ax, component, and s-video...i would recommend getting some kind of vga to s-video converter. This can be very cheap or very expensive. Also (I've never seen them but I'm sure that they make them) you could get a laptop card add on that has a s-video out.

There is an adapter you can buy that gives the T61 both S-Video and HDMI (or DVI, not sure) out.

    Couple hundred bucks.

Even my 3 year old PowerBook has DVI output. S-video is dead. What is the specific reason for needing S-video?

Not everybody has a television that has DVI or HDMI input.

Some of the older HDs use component-in for high definition signal.

My need is to hook my laptop up to my TV (Internet video broadcasts, TV replays, etc.). The TV has composite, component and s-video only.

i believe alchemy is talking about the docks - one of which has a mini-PCI Express slot. You can buy half height PCI express graphics cards that are able to fit in these. However, dont expect to fit super high end graphics cards as there probably isn't enough ventilation for those. That, and they dont make high end low profile video cards.

Unless you need a very high-quality output, use one of these adapters for $3.59:

Well if you get an RF modulator, you can hook up your computer to your TV's UHF antennae connectors and tune it to channel 48.

Oh wait. What year is this? I thought it was 1982

What you need is a Scan Converter, they are not cheap for good quality ones, however you can get a pretty decent one from Circuit City

I think I'm going to take a giant leap and blow $3.59 like I just don't care. I'd like to use one with my X61s. I guess I'll see if it works. I'm going to guess that any new video card will do it.

You need to look in the video card settings, It will have some sort of adjustment to send a TV signal as opposed to a VGA signal. It isn't something that all video cards come with standard no. Give it a shot though and let us know what video card you have.

It takes a scan converter. I've yet to find one that can even match up to a native S-vid port.

It's a big box, with a big power brick and it makes the colors 'funny'

Svid may be dated when compared to DVI and HDMI, but only places I've ever wanted to hook the lappy up to a TV have been hotels and you'll never find a DVI, HDMI or VGA port in a hotel TV.
If I want a computer hooked to my home TV I have much better options than a laptop.

I wish the T61 had svid, but you know what they say about wishing in one hand...

    VGA input, mind you.

Why is it that no one can grasp the difference between an input and an output?

FYI, I did get one of those cheap monoprice VGA to S-video/composite adapters. Could not get it to work on my T61 with Quadro NVS 140M. It does seem like the Nvidia control panel options have a facility for TV-out related settings, but they are unavailable, at least in my version. Any ideas for things I can try would be welcome.

I have the exact hardware config as you.....I am able to adjust the TV-out settings but no matter what I do the video is not being sent to the TV...
FN+F7 shows me a lotta options and I tried each of them. Unfortunately none of them work.

    Any help is appreciated.......
