    1. Is the T61 really such a good notebook? Or is it a mythos?

    2. How is the quality of the 15 zoll 1200 x 1000 displays?

    3. Is the notebook useable in sunlight like in a park or campus?

    Thanks for help.

I got mine this Friday and had performed Arkit3kt's WinXP Clean Install guide and loving it. Perfect setup if you want it nice an clean.

The only complain about this laptop that I have is the screen. I'm not sure which one I have for sure but I know the grainyness of the windows is horrible.

I have the 15.4 inch T61, and it is by far the best laptop I have ever owned. Get one, and you will NOT regret it !

The build quality is awesome, honestly. I feel very confident lugging it around anywhere from work to home to a friends house. I would say it would be perfect/easy for using at a university campus or a park (especially because of durability). With my screen I haven't had any problems using it in sunlight.

I work in Pro Engineer at my work, doing CAD designs and drawings on my Thinkpad. I chose the 1920x1200 just for that reason and that's a good resolution for me at least, gives a lot of screen real-estate. I'll attach a screenshot so you can see what fits on that type of resolution (15.4" screen btw, its the only option if you want that resolution).

I'll also mention lastly that it is dead silent, unless the disc drive is spinning, which is the same for all laptops.

I love my Thinkpad T61. I also had a lot of doubts, but after getting it I am very happy. No complaints. I love the screen BTW. I think I would have made a mistake if I got anything else.

Heck even my mom, who is not a tech person, said it looks awesome. She said she likes the all black look. I always loved the look, but was surprised that she liked it. I thought most women like the pink VAIO!!??

Just received mine late last week and I'm enjoying it so far. The only bad part, however, is the load of bloatware it comes with. The machine is bogged down a LOT by the ThinkVantage software, trial Norton AV, etc. It takes my machine almost 3 minutes to start up from pressing the power button to loading the desktop. Build quality is great - it feels very sturdy as you can press down anywhere and the shell does not bend at all. It's very easy to carry around (I have the 15.4" widescreen).

Like the others say, you'll want to take the time to do a clean install of either XP or Vista when you get it.

do you guys find that theres a little flex of the palm rest areas too? only the plastic though... the plastic depresses about 2 mm till you feel the mag alloy frame... and theres a lot under the ultra bay dvd area... and near the hot keys (think vantage volume and power buttons). It does feel really solid when closed, but the flex in these areas i wasn't expecting...

Yes there can be a bit of flex, but in all honestly it is just tolerances and a little give in the plastic panels.

Do the same test on most other notebooks and it would flex WAY more

    1. It is good, esp. in terms of Price/Performance Ratio. Lenove/IBM is smart to use black plastic as the main body material (only the cover is a little bit different), as black seems to cover all the freckles on the build.

    2. LCD's display quality of T61 is merely mediocre, still cant catch up with those screens from SONY and Apple, or even TOSHIBA for some models.

    3. Of course it is usable, but the black level of the screens is under average. You might need to tune the brightness to the max.

P.S. IMOP, T61 15' Wide screen models loses its mobility pretty much and turns into kind like desktop-replacement.

I love my thinkpad T61. The best laptop I have used so far. Like heaven and hell when comparing T61 to the crappy compaq laptop.

I agree with TP_FAN that T61 15" widescreen is not so portable. However, I use it everyday at my office and home.
