Just got my T61, very happy with it so far but have been a little surprised at the fan noise. It seems like it comes on more often than I would expect for Internet usage, spreadsheets, etc (but nothing graphics intensive). Any thoughts?

Maybe download and install Pc Wizard 2008 and/or ATI Tools and/or Thinkpad fan control software. Monitor the fan speed versus the different (8) temperature points. tpfc 0.31 Beta is the recommended one if you only download one.

Then, at least, you will will know why and what is happening.

Where do you get the thinkpad fan control software? It comes on frequently, but only stays on for < 1 minute. Is this common?

I found this with a few minutes of googling. I'm not sure if that's the version mentioned by alacrityathome, though.

try something ...... Assuming you have a fingerprint reader.

Eliminate all instantiations of Internet Explorer... and carefully listen to the pattern of your fan noise and see if it changes........

I'm trying to get through to Lenovo... It is a lot noisier than I thought it would be, given that they claim the 61 to be the "coolest, quietest..thinkpad" yeah right...
