Recently, the CPU temps on my T61 have gotten extremely high at times, sometimes exceeding 70C. I didn't notice what the issue was until I installed the Thinkpad Fan Control app and saw that the fan wasn't running at all, even when temps were extremely high (around 60C). According to the program, my fan is set to "SMART MODE 1". When I change it to "SMART MODE 2," the fan is running 100% all the time.

Why is my fan speed not kicking up automatically?

Also, the Thinkpad Fan Control app ( http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html) reports my CPU temperature as being 10-15C higher than what is reported in RMClock. Why is this?

I find RMclock temps to be off at least for me.. Coretemp,Hwmonitor, and speed fan all report the same values.

If you uninstall tpfancontrol does the fan go back to normal?
