My T61 was on my bed, and I was clumsy and tripped over the AC cord and the laptop fell about 2 feet onto carpet ground. Everything is fine with it except the left side of the lid latch. It won't lock, or "click" in place when I close the lid down. I suspect maybe a very small piece of plastic might have chipped from the latch hole or something. Only the right side latch will lock in place. My last resolution is to order a new palm rest, because from what I can see, the latch hole is part of the plastic palm rest. Any ideas, advice, or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah it might have broken that plastic piece in the palm rest if the latch is still fine. You will probably need to get another palm rest for the latch to work again. The screen isn't warped right?

No, the screen is fine. I'm not sure if the drop might have effected the heat of my laptop though, or not. It seems like it's been getting a lot hotter quicker, or the fan is always blowing most of the time. I sometimes have it sitting on my lap, and it just burns, but it wasn't like that before the drop.

How long have you had your laptop? Have you ever tried cleaning out the vents with some compressed air? You would be surprised at how much dust collects in there over a short amount of time. Also if you have pets that hair can get trapped causing your laptop to heat up.

I have had it since the second week of this January, no pets. It doesn't look dusty from my eyes, but I wouldn't be surprised to find dust inside the copper heatsink.
