Does anyone know when it's coming?

There're a few models listed on the lenovo.co.uk website - but there's no availability or prices, and no dealers seem to have them.

Import them from the US, it will even be a lot cheaper ;)

I've been having a look at Euclid Computers. It looks like I can get a nearly top specced T61 plus UK delivery plus UK VAT (at 17.5% ;) for approx £1,050 GBP - which is pretty amazing.

Even though the UK T61 prices haven't been published yet, I reckon they'll be somewhat higher than that.

Has anyone on these forums and in the UK had any experience of buying from Euclid before?

The one issue I'm concerned about is dead pixels. Here in the UK, the EU Distance Selling Directive allows us to send goods back to the retailer within 7 days - as long as they're in resaleable condition (even if the box has been opened). Of course, I won't have that right if I buy from Euclid - so I'll be stuck if there are dead pixels.

What's the record like re: dead pixels on Thinpads in general, and the T61 specifically?

The biggest problem is that that model doens't have international warranty (official). I am from the Nethetherlands, and I have an order with a T61 (the $1432 model) at Euclid. There are a lot more people here ordering at Euclid.

    I know.

But it's ridiculous to pay $319 to change that '3' to a '4' on the backside sticker. I can do that myself for $1.

I've just checked out the the the UK T61s at Cheriton

It's very disappointing. Nearly all of them have 1gb RAM (which I suppose would easy to upgrade) and 80gb hard discs (which would be trickier).

And it goes without saying that the prices are much more expensive than buying from Euclid (even with the imposition of $100 shipping + 17.5% VAT)

But that still leaves the problem of warranties. Any progress with this?

    Check what Rasmus said.

The more expensive models from Euclid (76591NU and 76631TU) do have international warranty.

Yeah. And, I would think, no option to return if you don't like the laptop for some reason, such as dead pixels. These were pretty much the reasons I changed my mind about shipping from US. I also liked the next business day delivery, but in your case (I was buying x60s) you would have to wait for t61 regardless whether you order it here or in US.

So, I've read through this thread (and other related threads) and I'm still not clear on something...

Is it possible for me to purchase a non-IWS laptop from Euclid, and then purchase an IWS separately from Lenovo? If so, would I buy the IWS from Lenovo USA or Lenovo UK? How much would it cost? Has anyone on these forums actually done this?

I realise that Euclid sells two models T61s covered by the IWS, but neither of them has the specs I want (i.e. the hard drives are too small, too little RAM and lacking turbo memory)

Today I emailed Euclid to ask about warranty situation on the T61 766417U
which Rasmus suggested would not have the IWS.

However, Euclid emailed me straight back to confirm that it does come with a 3 year IWS which I could use in the UK.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Well, then you can tell Lenovo Europe that you was thinking that it does have IWS when they refuse to repair in the begin.

"Ich habe es nicht gewusst". I guess that they will help you..

It looks like I'll have to go for one of the other models. Probably the T61 76631TU which is covered by the IWS.

I'm also going to get a docking station for it - particularly as I want to plug it into the DVI port on my big desktop monitor. Euclid have recommended the Advanced Minidock 250410U

    I've got a few questions:

    - Will I have any problems using the dock power supply in the UK? With the laptop power supply supply (I assume) I'll just need to use a cheap US-to-UK pin adaptor. Will this also work on the dock power supply?

    - The description of the dock on the Lenovo website says that it has a "US/Canada/LA Line Cord". What does that mean? What's a "line cord"?

The powersupply is in two parts. The big black box (the transformer itself) with a fixed cord to the dockingstation/notebook itself and a cable from the adapter to the outlet. The pinlayout differs. You can just go to your local electronisparts shop and buy a fitting cord :)
