T61 infinite restart problem

Hey !

I was trying to "undervolt" my thinkpad this morning when it suddenly shutted down after hours of stressing.
I tried many times to power on the computer after that, but it was restarting again and again (the lights went on and off), even before I could see anything on the screen. I couldn't access to the bios. *sad *

Well, 5 minutes ago I tried again and this time it worked \o/. The thinkpad started normally like nothing happened. And I didn't do anything special compared to the other times I tried. *happy *

I don't have any explanation about this whole thing, and now I wonder if I ever will shut down the computer again, just to be sure : D.

In the end I post this thread just in case it would happen again... did you ever encounter a problem like this with your thinkpad ? Do you know how to solve it (or do you know how the computer solved it by itself ? xD).

Great, while I was writing this, the computer shut down again (well, it seems like just the screen shut down), and now it doesn't want to start anymore (it starts again, and again...)

Any ideas to help ? xD

How did you undervolt your computer?

 

I followed the undervolting guide in the hardware section of the forum step by step. It crashed when I was stressing the cpu at 1.1125v if I remember correctly.

 

First off, I would try to return the voltages to default. Your particular CPU does not like to be undervolted too much. If your notebook does not boot up, remove the battery and the power adapter from your notebook (when off). Wait a few seconds, then press the power button a few times. Wait a few seconds, then put the battery and power adapter back in your notebook. Hopefully it should turn back on.

If you still want to undervolt, be more conservative.

But the fact is I can't make it; the computer won't boot up even when I do what you say °_°.
I'll try in a couple hours (It booted up right earlier after not doing anything to it for a while).

I hope I didn't ruin everything \o/

Like I thought I managed to boot up the computer after few hours. I put all the voltage settings to default in RMClock and uninstalled it. I restarted the computer but after around ~20 minutes it crashes again. I always have to wait a few hours to be able to boot it up again.

Any ideas ? °_°

Sounds to me like a motherboard issue. What you could do is boot the system with only 1 stick of RAM and see if it still crashes, then test with the 2nd stick only.

Ok hi again o/

I was kind of desperate and yesterday I connected the T61's hard drive to my desktop computer.
I searched for all files named "RMClockxxx", found one file in the Windows folder, and deleted it.

I put back the hard drive in the T61 and it loaded perfectly !
I don't have any crash since.
I guess I won't use this software anymore on the T61 xD.
