I can adjust the brightness 16 steps when the t61 is plugged or on battery, but the true maximum brightness appears to be at least 2 levels higher when it is plugged in. I am surprised that they are different. The lowest setting on both appears to be equal, but the top end when plugged in is noticeably brighter. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this something I can change either in the bios or in Windows? I would like to be able to run it at the maximum brightness when on battery if I want to.

I figured it out. Under the bios, the display brightness can be set to Normal or High. If it set to High then the LCD brightness is the same on battery or when plugged in.
