    Anyone noticed that you can no longer configure a T61 with the Atheros a/b/g/n wireless card. Your only choice would be the Intel a/g/n card if you want n support.

    Does anyone know the reason for this? I know both Intel's and Athero's n are draft n. But why did Lenovo drop the Atheros n? Is it a supply issue? Or is Lenovo hinting that the Atheros draft n card may not be compatible with the finalized wireless n standard?

    I did see that. I didn't take much note because I don't care about 802.11n yet. I'm also curious why it is. Maybe the certification for the atheros card wasn't 2.0 so they didn't want to sell an 802.11 card that was going to be out of date?

    Or, maybe they sold out? (They are more popular than the Intel)

    I hope it's not the certification issue... :(

    Geez, I configured my T61 with the atheros a/b/g/n option. I really hope its not a certification issue. If anyone hears anything more please post in this thread.

    A = 5ghz Band
    B,G = 2.4ghz Band, Most common and both are backward compatible with each other. G is newer and faster than B (11 vs. 54 respectively).
    N = New not finalized spec that is faster and supposedly better coverage

    All require the proper wifi router on the other end as well (A, B/G, N)

    802.11a is a very niche category now. You'll not likely find a public hotspot that is A unless they specifically wanted most not to be able to use it.

    Isn't A one of the best specs, as it gets the least interference?

    A has less pollution on the 5Ghz band but it has much shorter range than B/G/N

    A is also 54mbps which back in the day was awesome since it was much faster than the 11mbps of B. Then G came along and really took away the need for it besides less interferance.

    I wish A was the norm though as 2.4ghz is so crowded these days with house phones and especially microwaves (my whole kitchen goes Wifi Dead when the microwave is on).

    I think the Atheros option was stripped due to the Centrino branding.

    My microwave does the same thing, it kills all frequencies around it, including light :(

    Yup, depends on the microwave. Mine happens to be a 2.4ghz one that emits right around the same frequency as the 1-11 channels on Wifi.

    It depends on what frequency your micowave is at in the 2.4ghz band. Some are in the area of Wifi, some are not.
