this noise is coming from the left side where it is next to the ESC button

Do any of you guys have the same problem as i have?

Try removing the keyboard to see if that is indeed the problem. Instructions on how to do this are littered all over NBR- you should see them in the ThinkPad Sticky.

You can turn off CPU Power Management in the Bios to fix this issue.

    I don't think there's a setting in the BIOS for ZZZZZZCCCCCCHHHHHHH (On/Off).

There probably is something in the fan. OP, look under your keyboard already, will ya?

I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. It's really annoying. The buzzing ZEEECH sound comes from the left side of the laptop. I've tried tapping it, blowing into the side vents, but no relief.

I did notice that the moment I tap the touchpad or eraser head, the sound intensifies. When I take my finger off, the sound will minimize to a softer ZEECH sound. Anyone else notice this?!

Cany someone listen carefully to their laptop and see if they have this same issue? Try tapping on the touchpad or eraser head to see if the ZEEECH noise intensifies.

Also this only occurs on BATTERY. When plugged in, I don't hear the ZEEECH noise.

I came here looking for solution to the same problem - annoying noise from around esc key and only on battery. As Jeff suggested i disabled CPU Power Management in BIOS and i think it helped! I'll test it a bit more later (battery ran low) but does anyone know what impact on processor and power management does this option have? Is it necessary if power is managed from Windows?
So basically - can I leave it off and forget about it or should I turn it off only when I plan using battery?
Or maybe should I send it for repair?

    Thanks in advance

    This sounds like processor whine.

We saw the same phenomena with the original macbook pros using the core duos (not core 2 duos).

It had to do with the processors being in idle state with nothing to do - the whine would intensify. As soon as 'some' activity was happening, it would stop.

Eventually someone just released a program that always kept the processors running - the impact on battery time was minimal if any, so it was a decent work around.
