Hey, i'm having some problems picking between the R61 and the T61.

These are the current specs i'm looking at:

    LENOVO THINKPAD R61 C2D/ T8100-2 1G 160GB 1GB 14.1IN DVD±RW XPP SW (NA0NDSW)
    : 1120 USD

    or :

    LENOVO TS/ ThinkPad T61/T7250 1GB 160GB 14" XPP (UZ26DNO)
    :1320 USD

These are the two i'm looking at, and uhm about the large prices :p
I live in Sweden where the prices are a lot higher then the U.S/Canada and seeing that I cannot order internationally from the U.S nor Canada I'll have to go for one of those laptops otherwise i'd go for a T61 but with better specs and i'm kind of stretched thin on the money at the moment.

So anyways, which one would you guys take?
And if you know anything better, please post it.

In my opinion, $200USD is not enough to justify an upgrade to the T61. And that's when an R61 and T61 have the same specs. In this case, the R61 has the better processor. My vote goes to the R61. Build quality for both series are excellent.

Yeah I would also go with the R61 in that case. What do you plan to use your laptop for?

Another vote fr the T61, the 8100 is a 45nm processor vs T7250 which is 65nm. With the T8100 you have more battery life and a cooler laptop.

Alright thanks for the answers so far.

I plan on using the laptop for watching movies, doing schoolwork and perhaps some light-gaming sometimes.
Maybe a bit of coding as well and using linux/windows XP.

I still cannot decide, "partly" because i've heard that everything except the T series suck but it might just be a rumour. And according to the popular lenovo Laptops thingy on the left of the page the T61 is one the first place by large marginals so hmm...

I think I need some more opinions.. :p

Well they both have integrated graphics cards so you won't be able to play very many games. I would recommend the T61p if you want to play some games like Call of Duty 4. The T61 and the R61 will only be able to play older games at medium to low settings.

I wouldn't base your decision on the ranking on the left side of the page. I am not even sure how they collect those results. I have used some of the R series laptop's before. They seem sturdy to me. If you are careful with your stuff I think the R61 will be just as good if not better than the T61 that you are considering.

Yeah I think i'll be going with the R61, I found out that with the same price that i give to get a T61 I can get a R61 with a bit better processor, one more inch on the screen and one more gig of RAM.

So yeah, i'll probably go for the R61, thanks for the help. If anyone wish to add anything please do since I won't make the purchase until a few days from now.

The 14" T61 and R61 are nearly identical with the R61 being slightly heavier and thicker. Unless you need WWAN I don't think the cost is justified. This may be of interest to you.

I'm a sucker for thin and light, and would go with the T61, even if it is only a slight advantage. However, you have to consider your needs, if you won't be carrying this laptop around too much then definitely just settle for the R61. If you will be taking your ThinkPad on the go more than 25 - 30% of the time, I think the T61 is a worthy upgrade.

I don't think you'll regret either decision though, ThinkPads are great for school and will last you. You can even sell it after you're finished in 3 - 4 years if you take care of it, ThinkPads hold their value better than many other notebooks since they're known to have good build.

Yeah I won't be going around so much with it right now, probably in 3-5 years but by then I'll have enough money to buy something expensive, slim and light and powerful performance.

So I'm pretty sure I'm going with the R61.
Unless anybody else got any other information for me :p?

    Thanks so far.
