The only things you give up by switching to an X60/61t is $300 or so, plus a few ounces in extra weight. CPU and such is all the same.

Cool! How about durability? Is the single hinge pretty sturdy and flex-free?

I've been a laptop user almost from the day they became available (1987). I was an airline pilot then and carried various laptops on the road. The first ones that I owned were about 7 pounds. I learned early on that lighter was better, especially when running from gate to gate. Over time as better and LIGHTER laptops became available, I found myself continually upgrading.

For me, the sweet spot is around 3 pounds. I realize 3 more pounds by itself is not that much more, but when you're adding the 2-3 more pounds to all the other extras (books, cell phones, i-pods, etc), it does make a difference.

My last two laptops have been "X" Thinkpads. While the 12" screen is small, it works for me. While the keyboard on the X factor machines is slightly smaller than full size, I find I don't have any trouble typing.

For my gaming and other BIG screen operations, my home desktop serves that need. Another good thing about having a home desktop is that you have 2 places to store your data. A lot of laptops get stolen or lost every day.

So, go for your big screen laptops if you want, but I'll bet overtime you'll find yourself going smaller when you get weary of hauling your 6 pounder.

Would you consider 14.1 inches "big"?

For a road warrior, yes, 14" is big.

I'm not going to be much of a road warrior, per se... more of a "sidewalk warrior".

Amen!!! This is exactly why I will not be purchasing another ThinkPad until they fix this! ;)

Are there any other particular notebook models anyone could recommend to me? To sum things up: (Things that matter to me, at least)

    T61:
    Pros: Screen resolution, dedicated graphics,
    Cons: Size, battery life

    X61:
    Pros: Size, battery life
Cons: Screen resolution, no dedicated graphics

Are there any alternatives that could offer me a slim size and at LEAST SXGA resolution? Dedicated graphics would be nice, but I'd be willing to sacrifice it for a slightly smaller size.

By 'alternatives', do you mean non-ThinkPad notebooks? If so, yes, there are plenty.

I'd be willing to go non-Thinkpad, yes.

Something about the Thinkpads just appeal to me, though. If I could get SXGA on the T61, that'd probably do it for me. =/

Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You could try custom ordering via the phone... Not sure if they'd do it, but it's worth a shot.

I'll try that. In the meantime, do you have any non-Lenovo suggestions?

If you haven't already, check out the Dell D630.

Is it noticeably smaller/more portable than the T61?

Edit: I'll probably pass on the D630, doesn't seem to offer much over the T61, and it actually winds up being heavier, I believe. Thanks, though.

The D630 is the same weight and slightly cheaper.

I agree with the advice, but let's avoid telling people to shut up. ;)

Since the T61 has been delayed, before I received my new ship date, I started looking at other options and came across the Dell m1330. If this is available for order before my T61 ships, I'm going to cancel and get the Dell.

Do a google search as it isn't up on the Dell site.

    Regards-Michael G.
