I seem to be having one glaring issue with my T61. When I am plugged in I switch to performance mode and everything runs like a dream. However when I unplug I switch to power savings mode. Everything starts off fine but after 5-10 minutes firefox freezes (have only been using internet unplugged). The screen proceeds to go black and I must turn the computer off and on again. Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

Could not disabling turbo memory be the problem?
-
I'm having this problem as well...only when on battery.
-
-
So I guess I should probably just give tech support a call huh
-
Correct, not plugged into the outlet and running off battery and firefox will freeze and the screen will fade and the entire machine locks up. Only way to recover is hold the power button down and reboot.
-
Yep I have the exact same problem
-
Both you guys have turbo memory? Vista? So weird.
Sorry to hear it, good luck. -
I know I got turbo memory and vista business
-
I believe it is a explorer.exe issue with Vista. If you search google, other computers have similar issues but no one has a solution to it.
-
So is lenovo even going to be able to help me fix this problem?
-
Same problem.
disable to turbo memory.
seems to be OK so far. -
Well I just got off the phone with tech support, apparently the battery itself is the problem, so they are sending a new one my way. Not sure if this will fix the problem or not but at least the guy did not waste time. You would disable turbo memory in the device manager right?
-
I have the exact same problem. Blank screens, freezes, self-reboots when working on battery power with turbo memory enabled. In fact, it locked up and caused some files to go missing from Vista, and the computer was no longer able to reboot. Tech support didn't offer to replace my battery, but they offered to take the entire thing back. I decided to give it one more shot.
I restored it to the factory original state, and deselected some of the factory bloat ware. I disabled turbo memory right off the bat and so far, everything has been peachy.
There's another thread here that has a link to a new Intel driver that specifically addresses turbo memory issues with Vista while working on a battery (I believe). I'm going to try it right now, but I believe that this is a known issue at the point. I hope they fix it right away. -
same problem here. the random freeze ups are really starting to tick me off. and to top it all off, ive started getting blue screens as well. can anybody tell me how to disable turbo memory? and is it really the battery's problem? im seriously considering returning this t61 now... and it's a shame, it's such a beautiful machine. will doing a clean install of xp void my warranty? thanks
-
battery problem?i highly doubt it as many others are having the exact same problems. i have personally not experienced any BSODs or random lock ups, this is with a clean Ultimate install and turbo memory on
-
so installing xp will not void my warranty? it just bsod 3 more times while idling... imgetting quite sick of this and thinking of going back to a dell..
-
open the Intel Turbo Memory Console and turn the two settings off
-
Disabling turbo memory does not solve the problem entirely. My computer freezes every 15 minutes when turbo memory is enabled, but it still freezes every few hours when it is disabled. In fact, I just got a blue screen for the first time - turbo memory disabled.
There's something else wrong with these computers. I don't believe I have seen reports of blue screens on other computers using Vista and turbo memory. -
It took almost two months to get this laptop and I'm still dealing with this crap. I should've just gone with the cheap crappy HP that would've been delivered to my door on time and without all these problems.
-
first you need to goto Intel's website to get the latest drivers for turbo memory that will cure several blue screens
then you need to disable the active protection system for your hard drive because then you will notice when it is on battery and you move it it crashes
I would also remove extra programs that they install like the drivespace defrag program i think that the name it was version 9 the one that came with mine that I just got and they have already released version 11.
Also all of these problems are particular to Vista -
I have the same problem with my T61. I've actually been searching to see if my theory that the Active Protection System was causing the computer to stop responding.
Looks like I was right. Computer works fine with Active Protection disabled, but if I enable it and move the computer around it locks up.
I'll give tech support a call - I'm interested to see what they have to say.
Have not had any problems with Turbo Memory blue screen, just this. -
interesting...so it has to do with the aps?
T61 problem when not plugged in
