    Hey folks-

Hoping someone can help out. Every few days, my T61 randomly shuts itself off. I'll put the machine on standby and put it in my laptop case, and then when I pull it out it is completely off. It generally happens when the laptop's been moved, but not always. Usually I just hit the power button and it boots normally (though Windows says there was an improper shutdown and asks if I want to boot to safe mode). This has been going on for a while, and I sent the laptop back to the depot for repair--they replaced the system board, but with no success. Earlier today, I had the same issue, but the machine refused to turn on for a few minutes until I took the battery out for a minute and put it back.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this issue? Thanks a lot!

    I have an idea.

your ThinkVantage Active Protection system for the HDD may be causing the problem. Disable it (or make it less sensitive) and try again.
