Recently got my T61(2GHz C2D with 1.5GB ram) with newly installed Windows XP, I run the complication of my c project and found it's very slow comparing with my old X31 (1.4GHz CPU with 2GB ram). Before I uninstall all the ThinkVantage software, The time is double the one runs on X31, after uninstall all the ThinkVantage, Thinkpad..., I got almost same time with X31. I expect it will be about half of the time of X31.

    Here are my tries:
    1. uninstall all the ThinkVantage, Thinkpad...
    2. Adjust the power option to max performace.
    3. disable/uncheck the index service for each folder.

Seeking advice on what to do next step.:smileyhappy:

That systems is "marginal" but I have run XP fine on half a gigabyte. You didn't say anything about your app, it's size or what it does.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

What exactly meaning of the system is "marginal". Ram is marginal?

My application is compiling about 70 c source file. I don't think it use much ram.

There's no need to guess about RAM usage. Use the 3-finger salute to bring up the Task Manager, click the Performance tab and have a look at the Peak "Commit Charge". You should have at least as much RAM as that number.

Some other reasons besides insufficient RAM you compile may be slow:
    1. Is your compiler set up to use both CPUs, not just one?
    2. Is your CPU running at full speed? You can use RMClock to check.
    3. Maybe disk access is the bottleneck. In this case you'll want the fastest disk you can find -- for traditional disk that's WD Scorpio Black, but an SSD like Intel X25-M would be far faster still.
