OK, you have not so many apps after all...
And most important, it takes a LOT to bring you past the the "loading preferences" part.. Umm.. try to create a new user, and then see how much does it take for the new user to get past the logon screen.

If you want to trim something, you can safely stop the .NET service (set it to manual) and the machine debug manager (mdm.exe)
You can then walk into the Run key and clear the tray apps you don't use (ACWLIcon, ACTRay, igfxtray, SoundMAX)

And what are CleverCache and FortKnoxPersonalFirewall?
Also, Symantec tools are memory hogs...

    Startup type is Manual

    a) Fortknox is a firewall ( from Netgate)
b)Cleaver Cache is Memory management ( From O&O) program like cachemanXP

Symantec ( Humm) so what AV should i use . :(

WOW buddy that is a long time.

i am running windows vista ultimate and it take my computer max 50secs. well i have looked at the list and nothing really seems to a problem it could be that a file could have been corrupt. (it could be) well you know something did you disk frag your system. this may help you. try it if now just reinstall the OS

windows users switch to xp for speed but it looks like your computer just slowed down. it is even worst than vista.

and by the way, why did you downgrade?

Try the suggestions from this guide too after clean install.

How to Easily Optimize a Notebook Computer and Make it Faster
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2002

I've run tuneXP and not sure it did anything :p but doesn't hurt and maybe it feels faster.

I really don't know what up with my Host OS .

I can do clean install again but waiting for SP3 coz i have to install all the fixes again . ( i guess they are close to 115)

Have you tried my suggestion of creating a new user? and then log in with that user? As you have so long times loading a profile, a corrupted profile may be the culprit...

When you downgraded did you install XP off of a recovery disc, or clean from the real installation media?

The recovery disk is handy for drivers and the like, but also gives you plenty of bloat in the way of ThinkVantage utilities and other garbage you might not want (or at least hampers performance).

It doesn't seem likely that XP should be taking so long to boot if you did a reformat and a clean install. In my estimation, it seems that the simpler course of action towards getting things fixed would be to backup all your personal files, your virtual machine hard disks and do a clean install if possible from an XP Home (or Professional?) disc with the key provided to you by Lenovo.

I did a clean installation of XP ( proff).
yeah probably i need to do a clean installation again coz when i open task-manager it CPU utilization is 23-25 % haaa .

I guess only solution would be a clean installation again , but again fixes thats a big problem .

Clean install my 3ghz single core, 1 gig ddr1 machine starts XP in 40-50 seconds. My new vista think pad take about 40-50 seconds. You need a clean install for sure.

I have the same problem. Even after using Blacklists XP performance tuning. I never did a clean install, but I have hardly anything running. It's minutes to startup and shut down.

Did you perform a clean install (such a pain :( )? Or simply rerun windows setup?

    Thanks!

You would think all the computer manufacturers would do a better job with their bloat-ware. They install all that stuff and kill their woop-de-doo machines performance. Then we all cry how slow they are and have to put in all this effort. Can you imagine if you had to do something like this with your new car?

I think I'll get an 8088 with 256MB Ram, 10 Meg hard disk, vga monitor, windows 3.11 for workgroup :) and wordperfect 1.0.... ah the good ole dayz
oh and one of those 10 pound beige clicky ibm keyboards.
