You're right, the difference isn't huge in regards to the 14.1" Wide versions (the 15.4" version will be have a bit more variance)

    - The R61 is about .2" thicker than the T61.
    - The T61 uses an ultra-slim bay optical drive
    - T61 has built-in WWAN as an option
    - Options may be slightly different during configuration

    Thanks Andrew
The difference is smaller than ever, but I think price difference is smaller too

Is Active Protection System included in both T61 & R61?

So the R61 is .2 thicker without a good reason?

So if you want to go with an aditional battery or want to upgrade your ODD you have to go with the T61?

The funny thing is, that There is no diffence in price or configuration on the Lenovo site..!?

The T61 has a Top Cover Roll Cage and the R61 has a ThinkPad LCD Roll Cage.

Is there a difference between these two roll cages?

I believe they're the same, at least the pictures of the roll cages are.

Why is everyone raving about getting a T61 if the R61 is barely different? What's making them choose the T61?

The R61 has Ultrabay Enhanced, which actually has more expansion options than Ultrabay Slim, since Enhanced can use Slim devices, but not vice versa.

In previous generations, the T and R series shared many internal components, but externally they are quite different. The T61 and R61 though are so similar that they even share the same parts book.

I think later on the difference will be that the R61 will have cheaper options, such as the Intel graphics but without firewire, and in countries that only sell pre-configured systems, the R series will have those cheaper options pre-configured.

So, if I'm happy with everything in the R series (I feel nothing is lacking) and I like the build quality of the T, I should just save 100 bucks or so and go with the R61?

For those of you that want a T60 BestBuy stores have large discounts on T60's like 500.00 buck so find a store that has a business center on the floor and get a Intel 5500 1 GB widescreen 1600 resolution for yourself before they run out $999.00 some stores are even less depending on there stock. The best giveaway I have seen in a long time if you want a T60

I believe the real difference with the R is that some of the higher-end options might not be available for it.

But if you're a bottom feeder like me, go R. I actually configured an R to replace my crappy T order that never got shipped in 2 months.. but as they were about to cancel it and book my R, the T shipped. No matter :)

People do this all time with computers and it boggles my mind. If I told you you that I would sell you a car with 4 wheels, headlights, 2.2. litre engine for $20K. What would your first question be? "What model of car?" A BMW 3 series and an economy ford can share the same basic specs.

I will be honest I have not dealt with this particular BUDGET Lenovo only because of past experience with them and the the old piece of wisdom "you get what you pay for. I have purchased 5 R series laptops over the past 4 years for clients and they were all fine if your only goal was light usage. If you are a poweruser and going to run multiple apps at once filling your task bar buy the T.

There is a reason they are budget minded laptops. Like anything in life don't get the cheapest unless you are willing to settle for just that.

    Naturr,

Please do not revive six month old threads as it is against forum rules. Thank you.
