I'm confused too. I think I'm going to look for the answer using the search function for the forums because I think there may have been threads about this before. I'll quietly go search before other forum users start flaming me.

They both have built in cameras and a wide screen option .
R61, as you've probably noticed, is a bit cheaper.
The T61 is a few millimeters thinner, and a few ounces lighter.
I believe the T61 has WWAN as an available option, and the R61 does not.

The R61 uses the Ultrabay Enhanced expansion bay
The T61 uses the Ultrabay Slim expansion bay.

For more information on this see the below link

    http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/UltraBay

The Ultrabay Enhanced on the R61 is compatible with the Ultrabay Slim devices but the Ultrabay Slim on the T61 is not compatible with the Ultrabay Enhanced devices.

    Have I missed anything guys?

    R vs T
No roll cage in lid on 15.4" R
No turbo memory available (EDIT: on 15.4" R)
    No WWAN available
    thickness (14.1"):1.09"-1.26" vs 1.2"-1.37"
    thickness (15.4"): 1.2"-1.4" vs 1.39"-1.52"
    weight (14.1"): 5.0 vs 5.2 lbs (4cell)
    weight (15.4"): 5.9 vs 6.4 lbs (6cell)
    ultrabay enhanced vs slim
    incandescent thinklight vs led

Both have the new cooling system, both lids made with same super elastic polycarbonate, both carbon fiber reinforced case with roll cage, and both 14.1's have roll cage in lid.

If I was going 14.1", and wasn't interested in turbo memory, WWAN, etc, and could spec either to my desire, I'd go with the R series easy. Might even be a little cooler at .1" thicker. In 15.4", their prices are too close to skip the lid roll cage in the T series. I've had a plastic lidded thinkpad display go out on me within 2 years. Roll cage in a plastic lid is necessary imo.

here in my country, Indonesia. T61 will cost about 400U$D more if we compared with R61 (identical specification). both T61 and R61 only available with 14'1 WXGA. but R61 have lower resolution 1280 x 768 while T61 have 1440 x 900 resolution. actually what's WWAN and Turbo Memory? is it going to be use a lot if i only use my notebook to type source code, chatting, and light gaming?

Good summary, except you can get Turbo Memory with the R61.

I think WWAN is 3g or GSM or CDMA datacard buildin and Turbo memory is for Vista readydrive & readyboost
