I been looking to get a laptop for the last few months now. I have been following the release of the new t61 like most of you. I am trying to decide between the t60 and t61. Having read all the threads and the gracious review from Andrew, I still have some questions that are unclear from posts that contradict one another. If anyone could help out that would be great.

    1) Battery life being very important to me: Comparing Apples to Apples (intergrated vs. intergrated, dedicate vs. dedicate) How does the battery life compare between the two? I know Andrew got 3hrs. 40mins, but I have seen some reviews of the t60 with similar configs and useage with up to 5hrs. Btw the PCmag review, Andrew's review, and comments from others...I am very confused with this.

    2) Performance: How does the new Santa Rosa with intergrated graphics compare to the t60 with the ati x1300 card? If they are similar, I read a review here that someone got near 5 hrs of battery with the dedicated x1300 on vista.

BTW, my main useage for my laptop are mainly internet, watching mpg/avi/divx, powerpoint and word, some dvds and light gaming.

    Thanks!

for what you've said you're going to use the computer for, the intel gma x3100 might be enough for you.

They probably had the larger nine cell or modular batteries or both.

On my T60 with the 9-cell and X1400, if I'm doing basic tasks with max power savings all around (which is very usable IMO), I can get around 5 hours... I haven't done an exact test because I'm never unplugged that long... I just got the 9-cell for when I'm at my robotics competitions where availability of AC power is sometimes questionable...
Also, I am running vista, but may install XP on it as well and see if I get a significant gain in battery life w/ XP...

yes...i know. but i want the better deal between the two. if a t61 is equal to a t60 with ati x1300 in performance, with the t60 having a better battery life, i would choose the t60.

you are right, they did have a larger battery. but having said that, i comparing the largest battery available for each system (7 cell for t61 and 9 cell for t60). which one has a better battery life with a similar performing system?

If you want the latest technologies, go with the T61, it has the Santa Rosa technology, and it should save you some battery life. The downside is that it has a 7 cell battery.

The T60 is capable of having a 9 cell battery.

I'm not sure for how many hours it can last though, you may need to ask other people
