    Hi.

    I have T61 w/Vista 32 Home Premium 32 Bit.

I just installed 2 x 2 Gig memory. However I also have 1 Gig turbo memory. I have 2 questions.

    1) What settings are best for Turbo Memory (ie settings enable/disable for turboboost & turbodrive)?

    2) I have read 3.2~3.3 Gig memory is the max. amount Vista will see. Why does Vista state 3070 MB (via Computer right-click properties)

    thx..

Windows 32 bit only recognizes no more than 3GB ram. You need 64 bit of windows in order to recognize all 4Gb.

You will have to use Vista 64bit with 4gb ram... 32bit will only support something like 3,2gb.

what is your video card? x3100 or nvidia ? If it's the x3100, it will explain why you have only 3070mb and not 3200 available....

    regards,

Hi. I have nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB).

Any settings for the video card that will NOT take memory out of the 4 gig ram? Can someone tell me what the best setting is for this.

Also what about the Turbo memory settings? Anyone?

    thx

You need to install windows 64 bit, the amount of ram taken by GPU is negligible.

I have read 3.2~3.3 Gig in 32 bit Vista. Why am I getting 3070mb? If the video card is taking some memory away. What settings is best to NOT do this?

Also TurboMemory? Anyone enlighten me on the settings?

I answered your PM. Then I saw this thread. I'll just add that the title of this thread doesn't add up. Turbo Memory has nothing to do with the amount of memory recognized by your OS.

Also, as others here have mentioned. Your nVidia card is made with 128mb of memory but it will "share" another 128mg of RAM. That is the way the card is made. I don't think there is anything you can do about that. Even if you could the 128mg isn't much. I'm not sure that is even effecting the number you see via computer right-click properties. I have the same nVidia card as you with 4GB of RAM. On Vista 64-bit I see 4030mb of RAM. Basically what I'm saying is... I don't think I would see another 128mb of RAM on my system (4158mb) if I had a video option that didn't share RAM.

TurboMemory is not RAM, it is more like a cache - the goal being to put nonvolatile memory between the CPU and the disk. Nonvolatile just means it won't go away when the power is cut off. Essentially it lets windows store critical files on it, and instead of loading from the disk they get loaded from the flash memory (that is all TurboMemory is). In theory this should save power (your hard disk doesn't have to work quite as much), and it should make the system faster. I say should because real world performance shows sometimes things are faster and sometime you would never know you bought the stuff.

edit: Also, what system do you have?
    I want a SS of those warlocks...as 32bit vista shouldn't be showing 4GB ram.

1GB Turbo, someone else is going to have to chime in on this one until I get one in from Renee *btw thanks alot* :)

And for 4GB SD card, just stick it in and if it is ReadyBoost able, it'll pop up a dialog that will allow you to configure ReadyBoost. If you don't see it stick the card in and go to Computer, SD Card, Right Click Properties and you should see a ReadyBoost tab, if not your SD card can't be used for ReadyBoost.

    Thanks for the explaination.

Neo1234, how do you like SP1? Any issues?

Off topic but how much does it cost for an upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit (Vista) ?

It doesn't cost anything to do an upgrade from 32 to 64 as long as you have access to a 64-bit Vista installation disk. Or you can get one for free + $7 shipping and handling from Microsoft. It just requires a clea install using the 64-bit disk. See guide in my sig for details.

You could also try a 36 bit OS like Server 2003 heh, it will register 4GB...

That's why I removed it. I have shutdown issues. I recommend to wait untilthe official SP1 was been out for about a month. There is obviously something conflicting between SP1 and Thinkpads.
