    Hi.

I bought a Thinkpad T61 in the middle of August, and just recently noticed that every time I put the notebook to Sleep or Hibernate mode, it wakes up again within 5-10 minutes even when its closed shut. It's easy to tell exactly when it wakes up from sleep because you can hear harddrive activity as soon as this happens. Sure enough, as soon as I open the latches and lift up the screen, the monitor turns on and the Windows Vista login screen is waiting for my input. Is there any way to keep this notebook in sleep/hibernate mode?!

Go into Device Manager and work your way through those devices with Power options (modem, network and USB, may be others) and make sure that none are allowed to wake up the computer.

    Thanks for the advice John.

I looked through all of the devices under Device Manager and I think I found the one responsible for the periodic wakeups. It was the "Intel(R) 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection that had permission to wake the notebook from sleep -- the Power Management tab of this particular device even had a warning about it waking up at inopportune times and advised that you turn off the setting.
