Hi!
I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding you, so let me see if I've got this right:
You have a T61 with 1GB of memory. You had Windows XP SP2 installed. You then installed Windows Vista. You noticed that Vista made your computer very slow. You then uninstalled Vista and reinstalled Windows XP. Now your computer takes a long time to boot, sometimes 4 to 5 minutes.
Am I close?
I have a few questions:
-Did you do a complete reformat when installing the OS?
-Do you have XP installed now?
I wonder whether more memory would aid your system, but if it booted OK before you installed Vista, that's probably not the issue. -

Or, vmkr, did you have XP but then installed the Vista "theme"?
In my case, I have a T61p with XP and either with just XP or with XP and a Vista Theme, it DOES BOOT DAMN SLOW. And, it web surfs slowly as well. This is even after a virus/spyware scan and a defrag.
But, I have a lot of programs running on my Lenovo.
On a 2nd hard drive in the CD slot, I have Ubuntu Linux which boots lightning fast and web surfs lightning fast. I keep XP for gaming and any othe programs which will only run on XP. -
It sounds like they installed a Vista theme then dumped it. 4-5 minutes is too long. Check to see what's turning on with Windows. Some of the ThinkVantage tools can slow things down a some and may not be need if you aren't using them.
