On several reviews I've heard that the battery life is quite short on the t61. Would it be a big improvement on a 7cell or is that bump in the back not really worth the extra 3 cells? Is the 6 cell also bulky?

    Which one would you choose?

I know the 6 cell goes a longer way than the 4 cell. The 7 cell is of course a bit better than the 6 and apparently the same size, so why not go for a 7?

I'd go with the 7 cell. IF you're on the go quite often, or you just want your laptop run longer, then I recommend the 7 cell.

I had to get the price at, or around, $1200, so I went 6-cell in order to boost upgrades in other areas.

Will I notice that much difference from the 7-cell?

4-cell if you don't want it to stick out, 6-cell if battery life is really important for you.

Yes, but what's the real difference between 6 and 7 cell? In terms of running time, I mean.

    I meant in minutes. ;)

Someone on tp.com said 30-40. That's more than I thought one cell could do.

I always get the biggest battery possible when buying a laptop.

Weight and protrusion are also things to be considered as well.

I can deal with weight. In a laptop backpack I can carry a VAIO, ac adapter and notebook cooler plus other junk fairly well. The T61 should be even lighter. For others it may be more of an issue.

Protrusion is not only aesthetically displeasing, it can be a deal breaker when it comes to sleeves and cases. The one thing I hate most of all is having to remove batteries and drives from a laptop for traveling. This is why I couldn't settle for an X series. An external DVD-RW would be a pain in the neck, and so would removing and inserting a battery. I only want to remove one to exchange it for a backup if needed.

Luckily, my backpack can handle protrusion (not sure about the sleeve I have), so I went 6 cell. 7 cell pushed it over the price cap that was set for me, but I still might have balked if it stuck out much more.

I really donnt like sticking-out battery. I choose 4-cell if I bought T61. 6-cell in T60 donnt protrude? anyone knows?

I'll probably end up getting the 4 cell to avoid the fat behind. Maybe get a separate 7-cell for the laptop bag for traveling... but generally I'm plugged in anyway.

The 6-cell on the T60 does NOT protrude. The 9-cell on the T60 DOES protrude. Sorry, I like writing in big to make a difference. ;)

i like my ladies with a nice and firm/proportional behind. Can deal with some junk in the trunk, but i would probably get tired of it after a while.

In other words, i would buy the 4 cell.

Given our options with the T61, I'll take both the 4- and 7-cell. Most of the time I'll be near an outlet and the 4-cell will do just fine. For international travel I'll take both.

Give it a bit of time and these batteries will show up on eBay at a fraction of what they cost directly from Lenovo.

The 4:3 version of the T61 has a non protruding 6 cell.

Yes, and a protruding 9-cell. When I got my T42 I bought both (one that came with the system and the other one on eBay).

Like lowspeed, I also ordered a 4:3 version of the T61 (as well as the widescreen). I don't remember the difference in price, but I ordered mine with the 9-cell. Why? Because I'm an idiot. 99.9% of the time my laptop is plugged in and even a 2-cell would do in case of a blackout.

It's a bit like going on a date with 15 condoms in your pocket, wondering if you are prepared.

well if you plugged in all the time its more like going on a date with a vasectomy and 15 condoms as well... then wondering if maybe you'll still have a kid...

Is the widscreen version the 14.1", for if it is could you check whether the 9-cell works with it ? Thanks.

I haven't received them yet, but I'm sure that the 9-cell won't fit the widescreen.
