I'm trying to get Skype to work with the internal mic on my T61 and I can't get it to work. I have un-muted the onboard mic, set source to internal mic and still no luck. I can here the on board mic through my speakers. When I try the skype test call I never hear my own voice but I can hear the automated responce.

I'm a ubuntu user still waiting for my T61p but I really don't think yours is a hardware problem.
I have seen the same problem with my vaio and other computers, it's the problem with gnome-volume-manager. Try ask this on ubuntu's irc channel or visit their forum.
I got mine skype fixed but forgot how...

    Hi,

Why don't you try to set "Microphone" (instead of "Internal Mic") as source. This may sound silly as it would suggest that the Mic-In port will be used but that's exactly the way I got internal mic working on my girlfriend's laptop (Asus A8H). Worth to try...

    Hope that helps.

    I got it fixed.

Go to the Volume Control (gnome-volume-control) > Edit > Preferences > check the Capture box > Close. Next go to the Recording tab and set Capture to max (and unmute it if it's muted)
Then went to the mixer's Options tab and where it said input source and set them both to internal mic.
    now skype works just fine.
