Need help on deciding between the WSXGA vs WXGA....I am not a gamer......web browsing and excel etc.

Does anyone know the resolution of the WXGA?.....I thought it was 1280/960 but i read that for 15.4 widescreen it was 1400/900??? but could not confirm this on the spec sheet as it only shows the 14.1 spec's

    wxga 1280x800
    wsxga+ 1680x1050

    1440 x900 is wxga+

I have the 15.4" wsxga+ max bright in my z, it's really good. Bright, nice colors, great viewing angles. No complaints. Hated the samsung 14.1" wxga+. Bright enough, good resolution for that screen size, but huge light leakage and horrible viewing angles. Sent it back.

I couldn't handle wxga on a 15.4", not dense enough. But if you have weak eyesight, you might not be able to handle higher resolution either.

I have the 15.4" WXGA T61, which is resolution 1280x800. I believe there is a WXGA+ resolution available for some WS TPs, which is resolution of 1440x900. Fonts and such are pretty big with my screen, but of course I'm giving up a lot of real estate. It is nice on the eyes, but not for running and keeping track of multiple tasks in multiple windows, Photoshop CS3, etc. In addition text and graphics are not as crisp as I would like. I have ordered another T61 with the WXSGA+. This screen has resolution of 1680x1050 and I think I will be happier with it. Text, graphics will be much crisper, albeit smaller. I can live with that tradeoff. I suggest you try to look at WXGA and WXSGA+ to decide for yourself....

What if i get the WSXGA and if the font is too small I will just adjust the DPI accordingly?

Max resolutions on T61 14.1 is WXGA+ (1440x990) and 15.4 WSXGA+ (1680x1050) (T61P may have something higher when they are released?)

It will be hard for you to find a WSXGA+ notebook in a retail store (at least in my experience), but as long as you don't have vision problems I would highly recommend the higher resolution screens.

I would never go back. Some websites don't scale well, but that is the only negative I have found using WSXGA+.

For some, certain objects are harder to see/read with higher resolution, but imo none- less sharp objects, less real estate.

I had a similar question in which resolution to get. What do you guys recommend for mainly internet, streaming videos, mpg, avi, power point/word, occassional dvd?

Also, are the 15.4" lcd screens being made by samsung, LG, or both like the 14.1"s. Haven't heard much about the 15.4" screens.

Text and graphics will appear crisper on the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) than the WXGA (1280x800). Having spent a week with the latter on my 15.4" and now ordering the former, I would definitely recommend the WSXGA+. It is my understanding that the 15.4" WSXGA+ screens are currently sourced from LG and Samsung. Each have their fans, but the consensus seems to be that the LG screens are better overall. Luck of the draw as to which you get.
