OK, I had a Thinkpad, an OLD one (600E) and absolutely loved it. I might be able to swing a T61 if I time it right, lol, But I noticed that T41's are CHEAP. Is there some terrible reason for that? Or are they OK? (the T41).

Define cheap. If by cheap you mean <$400, it's just because the T41's are approximately 4 years old and most people don't like notebooks of that age (although I loved my T40 so much that I kept it for five years).

Yes, that is what I mean by cheap. Seems I could pick a decent one up for less than 200$...

I would first ask yourself what the purpose of the machine will be. If you are using it for work, are a business man that travels and if you need it for mission critical work etc, I would buy a top of the line new machine with a really good warranty. If you are just surfing the web with it, typing up documents and just basically using it for recreational use, then I would definitely go for the T41 at that price. Heck, at that price you could get 2 and use one as a backup :D. On hind site thats what I should have done with my purchase, I would have saved a lot of money. Don't get me wrong, I love my machine, it has been great, but it far exceeds my use(bought it thinking I would have more heavy usage requirements).

Jonlumpkin - As far as the T41. Don't these have the GPU/weak soldering issue?

Sadly that is a common problem of the T4x series as a whole. I believe the T43 has a rollcage that helps to alleviate this, but it is a design flaw.

That being said, it mostly crops up if you carry the laptop around frequently with only 1 hand (most notably support only at the front right palmrest [GPU at opposite corner]). If it is mostly used at a desk, and/or transported in a bag, it will be fine.

If you're concerned about the GPU, some of the T40s use integrated graphics and have the Banais Pentium Ms like the T41.

My old T42 ran like a champ, but I heard the GPU problem was more isolated in the radeon 7000 series versus the 9000 series.
