Hi guys ,
My screen is damaged in 3 ways :
1 : A gum was stuck to the screen and then removed, leaving a "ring" imprint on the screen. It's as if the pixels were damaged. It's not noticeable at ful brightness but it is on darker tones.
2 : The center area of the screen is getting damaged by the middle button of the mouse and some of the keys.
3 : The extreme left ( at middle height ) of the screen now displays 2 fine patterns where the screen bleeds light heavily. Again, it is not as noticeable at full brightness , but it's visible on darker tones.
My considered options :
-Get a glossy finish at Screentek and hope it fixes all problems
- Swap my panel for another one on ebay or another retailer ( Can I upgrade ? )
- Send it to Lenovo for repair ( I believe I have the base warranty, but my laptop is very important since I'm a student and travel alot )
Any input on this guys ?

If your screen is damaged, getting a glossy finish on it will not fix it.
You can swap the panel of course, but there aren't any upgrades for an SXGA+ really.
I don't think this falls under the base warranty as it's not a defect with the panel itself.
Can you take some pictures to see how bad this is? -
I will post pics soon.
In the meantime : Bump ! -
hmmm... I'm concerned about problem #2: The center area of the screen is getting damaged by the middle button of the mouse and some of the keys.
Is this a common issue with thinkpads? -
Trust me, I'm as suprised as you are. Coming from a T23 that had absolutely zero strenght behind the LCD panel, I was sure the rollcage would be enough, but it wasn't. By putting the laptop in my school bag, along with some books, it got me to this point.
To fix this I now put a cloth over the keyboard before closing the lid to make sure the keys dont rub on the screen, but the damage is already done. I will get a small kit from ShaggyMac later.
The weird part about this is I have to apply alot of pressure to the back of the screen lid to get any funny display on the LCD so go figure... -

Another option would be to sell it for parts and get a new laptop. Option 2 seems to be the cheapest. If you have Lenovo fix it, you may as well get a new laptop as it will cost probably as much.
-
Why would I sell it ? I love the laptop, and it's brand new. The screen just got unlucky. I want to fix the screen, because aside from that, the rest is rocking.
-
Because repairing the screen through Lenovo will likely cost as much as getting a new one. You can of course do it yourself, but will likely void your warranty as will getting a glossy coating put on it.
