    Hi there,

I am looking to buy a HD for my T61P, I am looking for something with a large capacity (to back up my iTunes and other crap on my main HD) and preferably 7200rpm. I see on Newegg they have this for sale:-

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148374

But it seems to be out of stock, can anyone recommend something similar? The other 500GB HD's on the website are all 5400rpm.

Out of interest I looked at the Lenovo equivalent and could only find this smaller HD for the same price:-

    Many thanks for any suggestions!!!

    :p

Get any of the seagate, wd, or hitachi 320gb 7200rpms. They should be around ~50 bucks with rebate

Thanks for the advice, I was looking at this one:-

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16822148316

But there are some fairly terrible reviews.

I really would prefer a 500GB HD though, it would mean I have capacity for a good few years (I download a load of football matches from the UK and it fills up my HD quite quickly!!)

    Thanks again :D

Thats a desktop drive, you want a 2.5inch drive. There are 5400rpm 500gb hdds that are pretty fast. The 7200rpm 500gb has been hard to find lately and I think its still the only one.

Oops, school boy error!! I have had a dig around online for that Seagate drive but it seems to be out of stock everywhere.... ed shame, I think for the price that would be absolutely ideal!!

I might have a look at the 320GB HD's if I can't get that Seagate anywhere.....

Actually I just noticed this one:-

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136315

    400GB 5200rpm for $90. Sound's a pretty good deal..

In January I upgraded my T61 from the 120GB 5400rpm drive to a Hitachi 320GB 7200rpm (with 16MB cache) drive from ZipZoomFly.com for $59 after rebate. Currently, it's $70, but last week there was a $20 rebate, so it's been $49 for a while. Maybe another rebate will come back soon.

It's been an awesome drive with plenty of room and it's plenty fast. Vista gives it a 5.9 score and my files all load very quickly. Definitely worth the buy. There are some great 400GB or 500GB drives if you need space. I thought that my drive was a good mix of size/speed/price.

    Good luck finding one.

Wow that's unbelievably cheap. In fact most of them are! I would love to change my internal HD but that sounds a huge job, I think I'll just stick to the HD in the Ultra Bay for now :D

    Thanks for the help :D

I just bought the Samsung SLC 64GB SSD drive for my main OS drive and then stuck my old main 200GB 7200rpm drive into the UltraBay Slim slot for storage only now and I love this setup. The speed is amazing. The OS hauls rear now. SSD is where the future is moving to. I got mine for $200 on Geeks.com. SLC is the only type you want though. MLC have drawbacks, and don't last very long.
