I am currently debating between the T61 14.1" widescreen and the T61P 14.1" standard. The only thing holding me back from the T61P is the sxga+ resolution, which seems too high for web browsing, reading email, etc. However, it is hard to justify paying nearly the same price for the T61, which has worse specs, just to get a downgraded resolution.

I have used a 14.1" wsgxa+ 1490x900, which had text that I could read. I can't seem to find an sgxa+ to use though. Can anyone who owns one please tell me if reading text has been a problem?

For reference, standard size screens do not bother me, I am only worried about straining my eyes reading small text (I may use the laptop for hours at a time).

I've bumped up the DPI to 120 on my SXGA+ T41.

    Its part of getting older.

If I increase the DPI, does it do this on an external monitor as well? I don't want to have to restart my computer every time I connect to another monitor.

Also, would you be able to post screenshots of the standard DPI vs 120?

    Thanks.

I have a 14.1" SXGA+ monitor and love it ... the text is just the right size for me (I'm 19 ... but I also wear contacts, so take that as you will). As far as I know the DPI setting should carryover to your external, but I cannot confirm that.

Well, here's my screen at 120 dpi. But if that still isn't large enough, it is possible to use custom settings.

Thanks. I think it's worth getting the upgraded model, even if I do have to mess with the DPI (although 120 was probably even too large for me).

$1100 for a T61P with the T9300/160GB 7200 drive and mobile broadband is hard to pass up.

I've put mine to work with large font in the appearance menu. Otherwise the letters are too small.

I thought of getting it with a standard screen 1024x768, but then I like seeing pictures so I bought the high-res. one

however, I don't move my laptop a lot and use an external monitor that matches the 1400x1050 resolution - it's 20" so no problems there, lol

I always uses the 1400x1050, so I guess that I'm used to these normal setting.

I'm having a hard time deciding between the 4:3 screen 14" T61P and the wide screen T61 as well. I don't know if I'll get used to using a 4:3 screen anymore although the better graphics card is very tempting.

    Help!

14" 4:3 laptop is smaller than 14" widescreen laptop
