Hi all,
I had a question about the display on the T61P 15.4, everyone keeps talking about brightness(nits) and manufacturer, How can i find out this information and also anyone has these details about the current WSXGA+ display being offered ?
Also is getting a mini doc the only way to get a HDMI/DVI port on this laptop ?
Thanks

Below is the link I use for lenovo's tabook, which provides details, etc:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitute/psref/tabook.pdf
I'm not too familiar with 15.4" models - I think however the brightness rating for WSXGA+ is 200. -
Thanks for the link, i think its 200 too if they are using the same panel as the T61. However one question is I find that some LCD's have brightness as high as 1000 - 2000 nits ...considering those numbers is this LCD kinda dark ? if 200 is the max.
And just for fun some brightness values of things we see everyday....
1.6 * 109 nits Solar disk at noon
600'000 nits Solar disk at horizon
120'000 nits Frosted bulb 60 W
11'000 nits T8 cool white fluorescent
8'000 nits Average clear sky
2'500 nits Moon surface
2'000 nits Average cloudy sky
30 nits Green electroluminescent source
0.0004 nits Darkest sky -

Many people complain about dim screens on the T61p...Does anybody know if the new SWXGA+ screen will suffer from this too? I was very close to buying a MBP, but now that this screen option is available at an amazing labor day sale price...i might have to take the plundge.

Its fairly bright, brighter then the old T60 I've seen at Bestbuy. I find it pretty comfortable to use in pretty much anyplace when set to full brightness.
Its kinda hard to give an exact comparison in just words so you would need to get the nitt ratings of other desktop/notebook monitors. 300 nits is pretty bright, to bright for a regular in home room where 200 nits is just about right. Outside on a sunny day in the shade 200 nits is a bit dim but still usable. -

Just as a point of reference, Gretag Macbeth recommends 180 nits in the calibration process with their spectrophotometer. So that's where you can expect competent graphics designers to be when they're designing many of the things you're seeing on your screen.
