    Hey all,

Just had a quick question. I never hear the fan on my T61P, ever. Recently it's started to involuntarily shut down so I guessed I might be having a temperature issue. I downloaded Speedfan and it gave me the core temps as:-

When I click the configure button and select 'fans' I see nothing:-

This doesn't look right to me. The laptop is so damned hot I can feel the heat on the keyboard as I type

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated :)

take a can of compressed air and see what you can blow out of the vents. also, if you're brave, i'd suggest disassembling the laptop a bit and see if there's anything clogging the fan.

Download tpfancontrol and check the rpm of your fan.

I'm fairly brave so i'll give it a go. I've cleaned all the vents so hopefully that isn't an issue. Thanks for the advice. :)

I've tried to install that program a few times and Vista is having none of it. It displays an error saying it cannot create an install directory. Strange.

I got it to work, I installed version 4.2 (strangely it says .62 at the top. Hmmm.)

After I ran the program I heard the fan speed pick up for the first time in god knows how long.

If you don't have warranty I would do the following:

    1) clean the fan as advised.
    2) reapply thermal paste.
    3) if none works then you may consider to a new set of fan/heatsink.

The CPU temperatures are well above normal, as others advised you'll need to open the system and give it a thorough clean and reapply paste or replace the fan/heatsink if necessary.

You may want to have a look at the Hardware Maintenanace Manual for your system for more detailed instructions on how to disassemble your system.
