I want to upgrade my T61P (model type:6460 with Nvidia Quadro FX 570M) to the max memory it can support. How do I find what:

    1. Newest and fastest type of memory (DDR2, DDR3) it supports.
    2. The max speed, Mhz
    3. The max capacity

    1. ddr2 only
    2. ddr2 pc5400/667Mhz is the max speed. you have no control over the memory speed, 965 chipset doesn't support 800mhz for the memory. This doesn't mean you cannot install ddr2 800mhz, it will just work on 667mhz.
    3. official support is up to 4GB, but i've seen people installing 2x4GB and getting 8GB in total.

Did they just put in 8GB and it worked, or did they have to do some modifications? Do you have a link? I would love to have 8GB ram.

Everest only tells you what you have in your computer currently, not what your max performance could be. I have Everest already, but thanks for the suggestion.

also i recall few owners of X61 at forums of ThinkPads.com reporting success with 8GB.
BUT as vert said, 8GB will cost you alot, while 2x2GB cost under 100$.

both the PM965 and GM965 natively support 8GB max memory.   i have 8GB sitting in my X61s and it works just fine.
